"Over and gone, over and gone. Summer is dying, dying."
The crickets felt it was their duty to warn everybody that summertime cannot last forever. Even on the most beautiful days in the whole year - the days when summer is changing into fall the crickets spread the rumor of sadness and change.
"Summer is over and gone," repeated the crickets. "How many nights till
frost?" sang the crickets. "Good-bye, summer, good-bye, good-bye!"
The sheep heard the crickets, and they felt so uneasy they broke a hole in the pasture fence and wandered up into the field across the road. The gander discovered the hole and led his family through, and they walked
to the orchard and ate the apples that were lying on the ground. A little maple tree in the swamp heard the cricket song and turned bright red with anxiety.”

Full day of teacher meetings today, then the 1st day with the students tomorrow. Should have just gotten out of bed when I woke on my own at 5:30, but I knew that wasn’t enough sleep, so I chased that dream.
Next time I’ll snooze on the couch drifting in and out to WFMU!

Speaking of weird dreams…my best friend, neighbor, and fellow teacher sent this to me yesterday:

Thanks everyone! I'm in a hotel in the Quarter in anticipation of outages in my neighborhood. Thing is, I'm monitoring my apartment cam so I can tell my neighbors if/when power goes out, and the friggin' lights are still on! If those bastards stay on the whole time, I'm suing Mother Nature for the cost of my hotel stay. Last year, they went before the wind or rain even started and were out for five days. That area loses power if a pigeon farts.
Seriously though, sounds like a stampede, and I'm on the 7th floor.

At 8am (2 hours) we have to drive 150 miles south from Natchez to the house in New Orleans, check house, leave some stuff, get some stuff (we only packed for 4-5 days when we went out of town for work last Tuesday), empty refrigerator, then back here again. No electric or internet restored yet; can't work from or live at home for a few days at least.
Everyone who lives here knows you have to empty your refrigerator if power will be out for days or sometimes weeks. When ppl evacced for Katrina in 05, they came back weeks, a month or two, later to refrigerators full of maggots. You have to empty the refrigerator -- take anything salvageable with you, throw out the rest. Can't leave food in an unpowered refrigerator for extended periods. Bad news.

LCBD, thanks. I’m always excited to go back to work. As much as it it sucks to have to get back to work! As long as we don’t have to go back to “hybrid” teaching kids both in the classroom AND remotely on duhcomputuh I’ll be all right.
Bnow, all the best to Rich. I live close enough to where he teaches so I’ll be able to hear his screams.
