I heard if if you play the whole album backwards, it messes up your needle.

That sounds like it might be true. Probably foul up the record, too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Beatles were not happy with the Pre-Pepper U.S. Capitol reconfigurations. Wasn't gonna happen. I note tho' that whereas Pepper is oft critiqued as all Production & no Song (& putting that aside just one moment...) - it is framed in time by the PennyLane / StrawberryFields single before it - & 'All You Need Is Love' right after it... which is pretty mighty Single imho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Another 67. Boy everybody jumped on that bandwagon quick

...so ...we got these 13ish short albums & that's it. TheBeatles were dedicated to the twin gawds of Excellence - & Change. Does Pepper deserve this dichotomy of Worship & Condemnation ??
I put it to you that Sgt.Pepper - is - after all - their *only* Sgt.Pepper. 'RubberSoul', Dec.'65, is the Maturity of their Pop Writing. Tim Riley observes that 'Revolver' is darkness with scattered light, & Pepper light with contrasting darkness... But - does Pepper deserve to branded as not having Songs - ?? Or are they just 1967 Songs? Or - are they in fact perfectly great Songs ??...

Bob Brainen recently did a special on BrianJones. Put all together like that - it becomes apparent that Brian found magic that fit each track on all these instruments. When the Stones lost Brian they lost their rainbow - Bob puts it ! George was in quite a similar position in TheBeatles adding Timbres behind the two Songwriting biggies upfront. Someone observed that Brian's sitar on 'Paint It Black' was actually less derivative than George's straight Indian approach (tho' George went & studied it quite seriously for a time).
