Care to share the recent price of Maine lobsters???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Doug Schulkind:

@alanr
I was buying them right of the boat. The price jumped around during the two weeks. About 8 bucks a pound, give or take.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am
Doug Schulkind:

The price of roadside lobster roll was outta control. $24 for a little morsel-filled bun. I stuck with the fried clams (God's nectar).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am

Cool early (1923!) reference to "rolling stone."

@Uncle Michael
In the early days, lobster was seen as foul fare befitting only servants and dogs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am
Uncle Michael:

I've only ever heard the term in reference to crayfish/crawdads. I didn't know it was also applied to "lobstah".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am

I get edumacated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am

Maybe I am taking liberties. Deploying the term in general reference to bottom-feeding crustaceans.

In colonial Providence, RI, when people caught a lobster in the bay, they would just throw it back into the fields, to fertilize them. Nice folks. The lobsters were not considered worth eating, unless unavoidable.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am
Doug Schulkind:

@Little Danny
Do you have to check your shoes every morning before stepping out into the Marfa dust?
Avatar 9:58am

Branford surprisingly wrote the liner notes for the new Broken Shadows recording of compositions by Ornette and his circle. I didn't see that coming. Excellent record, btw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am
Little Danny:

@Doug: yeah, but it's the black widows that like to relax in my shoes, not the scorpions.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:04am

Branford was always more open, less dogmatic than Wynton. Don't remember him trashing CT, but he did play all sorts music not such a snob for nothing but jazz of the bebop persuasion.

Johnny Hodges was so cool, he had seven nicknames. The top three: "Rabbit," Jeep," and "Squatty Roo."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am

Coltrane played with Earl Bostic's band, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am

[Speaking of loaded, I believe that Trane was pretty strung out during his time with Hodges and Bostic. Fellow musicians would describe him as nodding out, but then snapping to attention when it was time to blow the chorus or a solo.]

Here is the blurb quoting me:

"I'm fairly hyperventilating over this. Captures the soukous sound just before it was to become so slickly overproduced in the Parisian studios. Nothing but warmth here! The guitar is back in still back in the mix and bass is up front. When those positions switched, the music lost something."
