I missed Lynn Book. I took a class with her in Chicago in the early 90s. After one class I returned to my car to find my car radio stolen. Remember when car radios used to get stolen?

@Woo: I once had a sign on my car window that said "radio stuck on 1010WINS" (the all news all the time station in NYC) as a deterrent. Instead they stole the whole car!
Avatar 6:08pm
still b/p:

@ngh -- Came across some "not Swingle" trivia in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid imdb last night on imdb.
"Contrary to popular belief, the vocalists on "South American Getaway" were not The Swingle Singers. It was performed by The Ron Hicklin Singers, a group of Los Angeles studio vocalists best known as the real singers behind the background vocals on The Partridge Family recordings."
Avatar 6:11pm

@Still b/p, I'll save that for my obscure music night, like everything else I learn on WFMU. Thanks!

Do you know it’s Duchamp’s birthday today? I met him when I was 8 at an exhibit of his work. My dad asked him if he would sign the exhibit catalog for him and and declined, saying if he did it would become one of his readymades. My first lesson in Dada!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm
Webhamster Henry:

a Dada show on Duchamp's birthday is kind of appropriate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
Webhamster Henry:

But IIRC, Schwitters didn't want to be associated with Dada; he preferred "Merz".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
david w:

To everybody: this is just one of Frasconi's many amazing encounters and I hope we can have him here in the studio one day to share more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
Webhamster Henry:

Miguel, what's that bird call done on?
Avatar 6:35pm
northguineahills:

Heck, I have a book on Duchamp's work, and forgot.

The most famous composer I met in person and talked to was Luc Ferrari, or Laurie Anderson, depending on your metric of what famous can be.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm
david w:

Allegedly, Schwitters literally slammed the door in the Dada gangs face when they came to invite him to join.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm
Webhamster Henry:

He should have stuck around and joined Oulipo. But he died too early.
  6:37pm
Miguel:

The bird call is an Acme Nightingale whistle, made in the UK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
Webhamster Henry:

Acme Roadrunner whistle, famed in cartoons.
  6:40pm

They actually make all kinds of bird calls. I’m sure the coyote has their catalog. :)
