Like - were The Coasters Doo-Wop ? : en.wikipedia.org...
- maybe. Was Van Gogh an Impressionist? Maybe. But who cares?
A bad comparison - because Vincent was @ the end of Impressionism
- & The Coasters were *before* DooWop - I think is the crucial thing here...
Then again - they're calling contempo stuff now that's all slick & digital & manufactured 'Rhythm & Blues' - which always throws me...
Yeah. But what do you say when people ask you what kind of music you like? You gotta start using terms and most terms are inadequate to me and, anyway, I hate that question
We are missing the point. The music comes in way faster than it goes out. Every show on this station is entirely different from every other show. Such diversity dissolves genre issues. The song is worthy or it is not. Let the public decide. And throw them a bone.
The beauty of Downtown Soulville is it's a Genre program with an expert & delicious focus: One hour; 23 or 24 soul 45s.
I've calmed down a little being exposed to it all for the first time ever - but it still lives me slack-jawed & thrilled.
I reckon it's the most reliably wall-to-wall solid Hour in all of Broadcasting.
In another era - I used to think it was Eclectics versus Purists. (I'm thinking as a Creative type as well as Consumer.) But the whole culture got uglier. Then I came around to appreciating Purists as Preservationists. Hard to Eclectically like the best of everything - if nothing survives...
Besides - MFW likes other stuff I'm pretty sure... (We're in PostPostPostModern times after all.)
I'm driving a 2000 Ford Focus. I can't get into the passenger side. I almost have to crawl out of the driver door. I know just how to hit the dashboard to get the radio to work. My daily challenge? Avoid the potholes that will bottom out my pos. *shhhhh, I love you, car*
