A live, improvised sound collage experiment, going back 28 years, weaving mesmerizing new soundscapes from found and collected materials right in the present moment.
Pop music, speeches, live phone calls and spontaneous monologues become ambient loopy layered threads riding the liminal spaces between waking and dreaming. [On hiatus.] (Visit homepage.)

Hi Kenzo! Eerie empty board..

Yeah the cleaners finally showed up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm

Does that mean i'm listening NOW?

Until 7 o'clock!

Honored! :)

The playlist for this one is also lost
Avatar 3:08pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Looks like my hard drive crashed a few days after this show, so maybe that's why
Avatar 3:08pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh and I broke my foot
Avatar 3:09pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh and I was about to move across the country
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Bas NL:

I've been grating my brain of the opening tune.. it was so familiar. And ouch! Not too bad, i hope?
Avatar 3:09pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Uh oh, my internet is flaky. I assume I've been dropping out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Bas NL:

Short drops only.
Avatar 3:10pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

By opening tune, do you mean the one that's still underneath everything? Sounds like Moby to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Bas NL:

Right! Moby! But i think he borrowed it from Klaus Schulze.
Avatar 3:13pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Ahhh
Avatar 3:14pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In the background off mic, a young child is taking the first academic exam of her life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Bas NL:

Best of luck on the exam to her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Bas NL:

(I won't go to the breaking legs area..)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Bas NL:

Great mix, this.
Avatar 3:26pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Really glad you like! I asked her what the test was like and she made an interesting growling gurgle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Bas NL:

Growling gurgle sounds gruelling.
Avatar 3:33pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This show was an hour. I like that length. There can be one extended theme, with these subthemes in different zones, and often the second half would open up to phone calls
Avatar 3:35pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

But that's an after-the-fact observation. I never come in with a plan or structure. Sometimes I come in with a semi-plan but then it gets abandoned 1 minute before showtime
Avatar 3:36pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I guess "Better Off Dead (Ronald Reagan)" is an exception - came in with Ronald Reagan theme, executed it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Bas NL:

Would it be possible to phone in on Give the Drummer Radio?
Avatar 3:36pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I could set something up but just haven't
Avatar 3:40pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Wow I can't believe this had been lost for so long (first unearthed in 2018), it's so good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Bas NL:

*nod*, it's fantastic!
Avatar 3:43pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I think I'll pair it with Pure Imagination

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Now I shall ambitiously attempt to remaster Pure Imagination in a hurry. I have 10 minutes to get it done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Bas NL:

Time for a growling gurgle for sure.
Avatar 3:51pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Remastering without being able to listen to what I'm doing, this'll be good.
Avatar 3:51pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

ganza gonza, how do you say it?

Avatar 4:15pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

BTW I'm glad you're here, ?
Avatar 4:16pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

No real relation between videogames of today and the brief period in the early 80's when there was a massive largely-uncontrolled burst of creativity, which also generated a lot of interesting music
Avatar 4:18pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Another hard drive failure followed this show, too
  4:18pm
?:

aww ty ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿงก im glad to be here!! hope that drive had a backup!
Avatar 4:21pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Yeah, stacks of backups everywhere, but recovery was never quick.
  4:24pm
?:

ah goody, very tru tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Bas NL:

I've done some hard drive recovery over the years. Greatest feat was restoring half a million dollars worth of NOAA satellite imagery data.
Avatar 4:25pm

๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ!!! jesus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Bas NL:

There was no backup... go figure..
Avatar 4:26pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I lost the source recordings of a couple of years of radio shows, but got them all back after collaborating with a drive recovery tool author to improve the tool and get me my files back, whew
Avatar 4:27pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

And I remember back in Commodore 64 days having to flip sector by sector through my floppy disks to piece things back together. Directories frequently got corrupted
Avatar 4:28pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

oh yeah and overriding bad checksums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Bas NL:

Floppies where a sign of worse to come. :|
Avatar 4:29pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Zip disks! But yeah nothing beats "cloud storage" for sudden and complete loss of massive amounts of data, yay modern society

i got a 5.25" HDD that gave up the ghosts a year ago, now just makes clicking sounds and wont boot. i was thinking of just trying the silly "put it in the freezer" trick for the heck of it. ๐Ÿ˜‚ either of u every try that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Bas NL:

Cloud services are run by commercial companies.. that can be taken over.
Avatar 4:32pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I just watched a Gene Wilder scene that was very amusing. Maybe I'll play it now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm
Bas NL:

Give it a bump, ?. It's nearly always something got stuck in place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Bas NL:

Yeay Gene Wilder!
Avatar 4:36pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

5.25", that's big, isn't it?
  4:37pm
?:

ooh meant 3.5" haha, was thinking of the tray size
Avatar 4:38pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I'll go bump my old failed drive I've been putting off trying to recover for uhhhh it's probably been 9 years now
Avatar 4:39pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

It's like, I'd rather keep the ambiguous possibility that I didn't lose all the data so I haven't had the heart to try recovering it
  4:39pm
?:

lmao yea, my couple dead ones im just like waiting for future technology to be able to save them, if i were to try now i feel i'd just wreck it permanently
  4:40pm

๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ’ฅ
Avatar 4:40pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Exactly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Bas NL:

In a way a crashed hard drive is a Heisenberg time capsule. It might yield the past.
Avatar 4:44pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

If you wait long enough, it mutates and starts yielding the future
Avatar 4:44pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

But yeah, the idea of stored data you can't look at because looking at it destroys it...
  4:45pm
?:

frustrating indeed!
Avatar 4:46pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Let's sell a Heisendrive. Guaranteed 100% reliable writes. No reads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
Bas NL:

Very helpful is to have a same brand/type drive for spares. (I always buy HDs in two's)
  4:49pm
?:

@Kenzo lol perfect. then we just need one with 100% reliable reads but u cant write to it
Avatar 4:49pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Bas I used to do that, good practice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Bas NL:

I'd like a Heisendrive! The ultimate archive.
Avatar 4:51pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

16 years in the future, I was close
  4:51pm
?:

@Bas yeah ive currently got a 2TB WD drive as my main and a nearly identical model 2TB WD as my encrypted copy. they're the crappy "green" drives that have a history of fails tho. $25 on ebay for 2TB cant be beat tho! lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Bas NL:

Hard drives are a gamble these days. But running a copy is the way to go!
