Hi, Larry. Will miss the live show but wanted to mention that Noel's life for a year or two was spent just up the road from where I live in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. After a local fire brigade saved his house from a fire, he wrote a thank you song and recorded it. Made a big impression on the local and very rural community hereabouts.
See you in the archives.

Sem:

And thanks, Doug, for the daily listing of what's on the Drummer stream. Would have missed this show entirely otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Sem! Thanks for the memory. I hope you dig the show.

Greetings from Green Bay!

Hey Dere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
Funky16Corners:

Jeff! Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
Phillippe:

Hey Jeff, is Green Bay really green, or is it like Greenland, where they were apparently just kidding when they named it

Yvang:

Hi Larry!

Funky16Corners:

Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Jeff Ash:

Phillippe, it really is green. At this time of year, a lush green. In winter, though, not green at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Funky16Corners:

As opposed to New Jersey, which is neither new, nor made of jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Funky16Corners:

Though Brick is surprisingly brick-like

Brian in UK:

Hello Larry, love the way he has no truck with an American accent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Brian!

Erica:

Hi Testifiers! What a nice, cool day for a show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi Erica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - A Brit who spent much of his youth in Switzerland!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Yvang:

The way he sings he could have been Leonard Cohen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
Funky16Corners:

Interesting you should say that... (several Cohen covers coming)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Phillippe:

@Jeff sounds nice. Good for fishing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
KevinfromBayRidge:

Howdy Larry et al. Noel had a bit of Newley thing going on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Jeff Ash:

I don't fish, Phillippe, but there is much good fishing here, both on inland lakes and rivers and on Lakes Michigan and Superior.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Kevin! Yes, I think Newley elbows his way into the conversation of Noel Harrison!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
melinda:

hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi Melinda!
Avatar 3:30pm

Hi Melinda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

I am new to Noel Harrison.

I hope you enjoy the show!

The lyrics to Miles Davis' tune by Oscar Brown Jr
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
melinda:

Never heard lyrics for this before, cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

In addition to his own career as a singer, Oscar Brown Jr had a sideline writing lyrics to other people's instrumentals.

Hi Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Oddly enough, that song was written by an American, Bob Lind!
Avatar 3:46pm
Erica:

Getting Donovan vibes with this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

The last song was in fact a Donovan song
Avatar 3:47pm
Erica:

Figured since it sounded a bit to like Sunshine Superman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Funky16Corners:

Also covered (very nicely) by Hermans Hermits
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Yvang:

Nice folkisation of Strawberry Fields!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes! Probably the track that most drew me into Harrison's catalog. I think I picked up a copy of Collage at a used reord store more than 20 years ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Funky16Corners:

RECORD not reord
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
Yvang:

"Collage" is a great title
Avatar 3:55pm
Erica:

"Windmills of Your Mind" is probably Noel's most well known song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
Funky16Corners:

I would agree with that. Pretty big hit, too.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Yvang:

Les Moulins de mon cœur is the french title. Of my heart instead of of your mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Funky16Corners:

Thanks Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Funky16Corners:

This is a Noel Harrison original (as is the next song)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Funky16Corners:

Here's a link to the brand new show, Kip Brown's Discothech Underground, coming up at 5PM, right after Testify! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm

Hey kids, a brand-new show is premiering on the Drummer Stream immediately following Testify! Stay tuned for Discotech Underground with host Kip Brown, live from Three Rivers, Michigan. Join the party here: wfmu.org...

Programming note: There will be no Explorers Room this evening, but Little Danny will be on at 10pm (ET) with another wild episode of The Cool Blue Flame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug! No show at all at 7PM?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Yvang:

I knew nothing of Noel Harrison and since the beginning of the show I can't help thinking of Charles Aznavour. By the way Charles A. also famously sang the Michel Legrand song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Funky16Corners
That's right. My fuckup. I forgot to tell you for the mailing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Funky16Corners:

The first track I played was an Aznavour cover. He's def a touchstone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Mark Slate:

The cast from "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E" are enjoying this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Funky16Corners:

Tell April Dancer we said hello!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Yvang:

This can explain that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Funky16Corners:

This Leonard Cohen cover predates Cohen's own version by two years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Funky16Corners:

Oh! In other news, I will be back here tomorrow at noon, filling in for Uncle Michael and Hinky Dinky Time with three hours of Latin soul and boogaloo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
melinda:

Nice Peaceful, I've only heard the Helen Reddy before this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Funky16Corners:

Georgie Fame does a nice version, too, and the original by Kenny Rankin is great.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:29pm

Alex In Illinois:

I actually remember seeing Jim Stafford sing the previous song on TV some time in the 1970s
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Brian in UK:

Were most of his sales in the US? He never really struck a chord over here at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi Alex! It's Dylan song. I'd love to hear Stafford's version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Irene Trudel:

Had to tune in late today, so I'll catch the rest in the archives. Thanks for doing this tribute, Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I suspect so, but I also suspect a general commercial indifference, especially when people realized that most of his stuff didn't sound like Windmills of Your Mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Irene!
Avatar 🥁 4:56pm
David Shortell:

That's a different "Poor Cow" than the Sham 69 song, right?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Brian in UK:

Another ear opener, thanks Larry.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Yvang:

Thanks Larry! Nice discovery for me.
