Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Don't know NYC - but of course this is the thing: Republicans have known for a long time that their Policies put them increasingly in the Minority. So - actual Democracy cannot be their electoral strategy. They need only double down on their base to turn them out - whereas being 'Liberal' by definition means tolerance of broader views & a challenge more like herding cats - despite our clear & ever-expanding Majority. It's clear that Government isn't keeping up with Majority opinion. The USA will become more of a Democracy - or something else now.

I lost real interest in Star Wars by 1977 - but their intent to make it a 'lived-in' Futurism was an interesting point - & remember hearing much about their organic approach to Sound FX. Thwacking telephone pole restraint cables for pew-pew lasers for example...

Not a big fan of the director's cut with the added comic-book graphics, but The Warriors has been a favorite since I first saw it way back when I was 8 or 9. One of my absolute favorite opening sequences in any movie, and yeah, it's a great tour of 70s NYC. That's the real Gangs of New York.

Howdy, Failure Folks!

Just putting my 2 cents in about "The Warriors":
Most memorable thing about the movie is that it stars Michael Beck, who would be seen on the big screen no less than a year later in "Xanadu". So obviously, Hollywood was working hard to sell his name to the moviegoing masses as the new, hot up-and-comer with promising star potential. But since "Xanadu" bombed big at the box office, he's barely been seen anywhere since, if at all.

Serpico! Around the same time as that and Dog Day, Lumet made a film here called The Offence, with Sean Connery in the closest he ever got to playing a baddie. It’s absolutely harrowing, with screeching electronic score by Harrison Birtwhistle. My mum told me that when she and my dad saw it in the early Seventies, the audience filed out at the end in utter silence.

@Lix, ah, thanks -- a real climb. For some reason, my brain was interpreting as "steep hike," even though I know the Gunks are famous for climbing. We would definitely have to work up to that!

In other news, I just made Raspberry Collinses with our backyard chaos berries, and they are really, really good.

@HH the back way (off-trail) up Breakneck ridge could be described as a steep hike and/or rocky scramble. Pretty fun and no ropes required (but some good shoes recommended).

Ha, thanks, Bruce S. Kate and I had just said, basically, "Another success! Why do all our best ideas revolve around booze?"

I just read a Cuban SF book about a sentient robot obsessed with Raymond Chandler trying to use 48 Hours to catch a space criminal to prevent the aliens from abandoning Earth and mankind forever. So that movie has legs!

We have definitely had to use our hands on hikes around there, ChukAmok. The dog loves it for some reason!

There's a climbing gym in LIC, Queens. I went there last weekend to pick up some donated rope for canoes. Everyone was very, very fit. And young. I felt like beer spilled ON a pastrami sandwich, abandoned on the sidewalk outside.
