Avatar 🦇 4:08pm
Julie:

aww!! they sitting on them?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Phillippe:

Taking turns. We weren't really prepared for it, so we hadn't provided a lot of nesting materials. They have a little wicker hanging basket they sleep in where she laid the eggs, and they do have hay to play around in, but it doesn't look like they've built anything inside the basket
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:12pm

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Phillippe:

There are a couple barn swallows making a nest on the structure under my neighbor's pier. I'm vascillating on whether or not to chase them out for their own good. Love having them aroiund for mosquito control, but high tides in summer here have been known to cover piers. There's gonna be some drowned babies if that happens
Avatar 🦇 4:19pm
Julie:

yeah might be a good idea to yank the nest if they haven't layed yet
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Handy Haversack:

Seems late for them to be laying? We were paddling by baby barn swallows three weeks ago!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Handy Haversack:

1-2 clutches per year, per Cornell.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Phillippe:

Handy, one has a paralyzed leg, the other had her wing operated on and is featherless there. The pet store doctored them up and offered them for a free adoption.

We had swallows nesting under our deck at our prior house, and I think the babies were learning to fly mid to end of summer, if I remember correctly. Always a big bird coming out party, with lots of swallows hanging out to cheer them on. Their poop is pretty destructive, though -- permanently stained our concrete
Avatar 🦇 4:25pm

I guess Renton's line in Trainspotting will hold good for a few years more ("I haven't felt that good since Archie Gemmill scored against Holland in 1978" &c &c).

We were in Scotland for the World Cup a couple of tourneys back when England and USA were in the same group for group play. We ended up watching the matches with Scots while all the English tourists were steered to different rooms. As an Edinburgh cabbie said to me that trip, "It's no' tha' we hate the English! It's jest -- it was 1966! Get the fuck over it!"

We found a pub called Nelson's on Menorca off the coast of Spain. Great jacket potatoes. But also one of the best bronze typos I have seen. A Nelson quote on the wall, in bronze letters: "England expects that everyman will do his duty."

All I could think of was that in medieval morality plays, Everyman really didn't have the agency to choose anything else! And that Admiral Nelson should probably have been focused on more immediate and maritime matters.
Avatar 5:34pm

That 5-piece Floyd picture is also a bit sad, when you think Rick Wright was sneaking out for their gigs and not telling Syd where he went (when they lived together) as Syd's erratic performances weren't that necessary.
