I wonder if bands take a lot more time these days partly because labels aren't getting them access to the best equipment and engineers anymore so there's more incentive to work the songs slowly and get them as good as you can with what you have.

On the speed tip, there's a local label that has a 45 lathe press. They reached out to Kate, and her band, in conjunction with releasing an EP this summer, is going to to a presale of a set of songs. Whatever people preorder, they will go in and record individual one-shot live takes of each ordered song. Those are pressed to 45s and sent out right away. Pretty neat!

Stuff on the streams is getting so good -- or rather, good stuff on the streams is filling more and more hours! WFMU has become like the car radio growing up, when you would switch among a few stations. Now FMU *is* the radio environment. And I guess the car is a computer? (In which are the files, or so I've been led to believe.)

At any rate, it's both glorious and confounding to have so much good stuff all on at the same time!
