spodi, have you tried the kind that you add boiling water to , let steep, and then fry for a minute? Surprisingly good. Like Denny's hashbrowns, but you can dress 'em up as desired.

Also, she did an oral history volunteer project in Minneapolis in her college years with a Cambodian refugee family who had escaped -- fording rivers, dodging patrols, the whole deal -- with three children and four musical instruments. The mother told her about carrying three children at a time so the father could carry the instruments. The father brought them out and played them for her. But she can't right now remember the names of the instruments.
