	12:40pm paddy in matawan: Generally true @head. However, for example, in middle eastern cuisine, there aren't as many sauces and curries. Many indian dishes are served in a curry broth or thick sauce. That said, Indian Makhani dishes are noted as Oriental spices.

	1:00pm headcleaner: it's just a label (and I agree with hating the label). but at the end of the day, most modern cuisine is intrinsically fusional (often promiscuously though), whether one wants to call it that or not. (sorry if I'm belaboring the point)

And checking out other Dhrupad musicians could be fruitful as well.

Used to listen to the raga show on WKCR, but I didn't keep up with it for one reason or another. It's life-affirming.

	2:03pm Bryce: @mike w - funny, was just about to say what adrian elaine said, hahaa. gosh, i'll have to think about that tho. i really, really love imrat khan. he usually goes from 0 to a million by the end of a raga, but always starts out super slow and low on the surbahar. sometimes his single notes trace out these unbelievably elaborate filigrees. totally intoxicating. lalmani misra also just popped into my head. he played the vichitra veena, which is voiced by stopping the strings with a large smooth stone about the size of a chicken egg. that makes it almost impossible to be flashy, so vichitra veena players (that i've heard anyway) tend to tug on time a lot.

	2:03pm Bryce: @mike w - funny, was just about to say what adrian elaine said, hahaa. gosh, i'll have to think about that tho. i really, really love imrat khan. he usually goes from 0 to a million by the end of a raga, but always starts out super slow and low on the surbahar. sometimes his single notes trace out these unbelievably elaborate filigrees. totally intoxicating. lalmani misra also just popped into my head. he played the vichitra veena, which is voiced by stopping the strings with a large smooth stone about the size of a chicken egg. that makes it almost impossible to be flashy, so vichitra veena players (that i've heard anyway) tend to tug on time a lot.
