Hello Brian - very warm and springlike here as well this week, still stubborn patches of snow and ice crust here and there.

Brian is going first-class! I shamble into the bar from the luggage car, trailing dust and smoke. Happy greetings, David and Voyageurs! Sunny and brisk here, nice wind blowing up small whitecaps on the creek.

Sylvia, chresti, redkayak, Phillippe, David, Yeti Bob, Yvang, Hubig! A motley crew of true companions!

I somehow got conned into getting something from Amazon? I ordered a book from Abebooks and it came in an Amazon Prime envelope -- which I ignored in the hall for a week assuming there was no way it could be for us! But somehow it was, with an Amazon receipt in it and all. Could have sworn I was ordering from a used bookstore in California.

During the Trans-Antarctic expedition of 1914-1917, three Adelie penguins approached meteorologist Leonard Hussey while he was playing a banjo. Shackleton wrote that: "The solemn-looking little birds appeared to appreciate 'It's A Long Way to Tipperaray' but they fled in horror when Hussey treated them to a little of the music that comes from Scotland. The shouts of laughter from the ship added to their dismay, and they made off as fast as their short legs would carry them".
