	2:08pm coelacanth∅: i've never exploded anything but a few beans in a microwave oven. i've seen potatoes explode in there, and can attest to my sister's' being a big mess, most of the time, due to exploding food. i've never owned one. seems like a lot of expense just to experiment with food explosion.

	2:10pm steveo: i've never exploded anything but a few beans in a microwave oven. i'm not sure if it's possible to generate enough pressure to blow your ear off in one sitting, but i wouldn't rule it out. it can't possibly have been pleasant for her and it's not like she's had a lot of practice at living. ponyboy is here! we are super excited.

	2:14pm steveo: we sold our microwave when we sold our apartment (it was built in), then we lived without one for more than a year, then several months ago, I went out on trash day and found one within 10 minutes. works great, but it's only 900 watts, so a little slow.

	2:17pm Handy Haversack: Never actually owned a microwave. And since one would take up like 40 percent of the apartment at this point, that is likely to continue.

	2:20pm Charlie: I never had a microwave before the house I live in now (it's built in). Managed ok without, but I like using it now for various things.
	2:21pm coelacanth∅: if i had a microwave oven i'd use it only to reheat leftovers, which means i'd use it about once/month or 2. 3 times i've been offered one for free, and declined.
	2:22pm Phillippe Bastille: How could anyone possibly get that smell of burnt popcorn in their house without a microwave? Damn luddites.

	2:24pm Charlie: I have a hot air popper, so I've never made popcorn in the nuke-ro-wave
	2:24pm coelacanth∅: i do reheat tea now and then, maybe 1-2X/month. a microwave oven would save me a good 30-60 seconds and only use double the electricity, over an electric stove. i guess i can justify it.

	2:26pm Michael: It was from Sears. I never saw one before either. Had a microwave side and at one end a little door pulled down to reveal tow toaster slots. It saved space in a way but like I said was quite large.

	2:32pm Phillippe Bastille: @coel my biggest issues with electric is how long it takes to heat up and when you turn it off, it's not really off for a while. There's no radiant heat with induction, so off is really off -- its just whatever heat your cookware retains. You can get a couple cups of water to boiling in about 30 seconds

	2:46pm coelacanth∅: Phillippe yes those attributes are one thing i don't like but i work with. i know at what point before the thing (whatever the thing is) is finished to turn the power off. like with ramen i drop the noodles in then the seaweed and turn it right off. roasting seeds in a cast iron skillet i turn the power on, put the seeds in and turn the power off as soon as the coils reach a glow. it heats up fast here. the one in my last apartment it was slow. (and sparky)
