January 15, 2021: Did you have fun?
This radio show denounces explicit and implicit racism. It condemns the culture of White supremacy, which enables the brutalization of Black people and other communities of color. It supports Black Lives Matter and the movement it stands for. |

Thanks for the tip on the Billie Holiday doc, Doug. Adding that to my watch list. Always up for anything having to do with Mal Waldron, too.

There's a summer movie blockbuster for ya.
A recent conversation led to a look-up of Manhandler ads, and subsequent to the viewing, the jingle (Frankie Laine!) keeps getting shouted out, of course. I think the jingle is what started the conversation.

Joanne Rogers was no less a saint than her adored spouse. I just read a lovely tribute to Joanne on Facebook by the great pianist Matthew Shipp of all people. Fred and Joanne were universally loved.

After the Tree of Life massacre here, Trump came a few days later to everyone's disgust. There was a rally and march to protest his visit. Milling around with my assembled neighbors waiting for the march to commence, I found myself standing in front of the Rogers home. It was a poignant but powerful moment.
