With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

January 17, 2021: Sunlit Peaks and Dark Valleys: Happy Birthday, Donald Erb
“It’s not a profession that’s on an even-keel. There are days when life rains on your parade. You really are making a living by scratching your own nerve-ends, and by challenging other people to think. " Composer Donald Erb at home in Cleveland Heights, with friend.

Haven't heard the LVB yet, and I'm predisposed to like it, because I adore Savall's work and LVB's music. Recently acquired Rene Jacobs' recording of Leonore, the proto-Fidelio. Haven't heard it yet, either.

but my comparison to gangsta rap is the bombast, the predictability.
not my favorite properties in music.
but i'd like to check this thing out.

Jacobs claims the original version is superior to what we know as Fidelio, contrary to the performance tradition.

Walking the dog just now, I was thinking about whether or when I'd listen to him again. The symphonies and the quartets were an important part of my life, at a time. I'd have to find a way to make them new for myself again. Sometimes a new recording can do that.
