OK, 'cause Zoe Diltz Pratt commanded me to:
1) All births are miracles, but mine was especially miraculous. If you want to know more about this we should go out and have a beer or twelve...
2) I was born and raised in Los Angeles, but most people either think I'm a native New Yorker 'cause I'm very high-strung, or Canadian 'cause I'm fairly smart yet sort of a burnout. I secretly like this very much.
3) Def Leppard's "Foolin'" and Van Halen's "Jump" & "Hot For Teacher" are the reasons I'm a musician.
4) When I was in 4th and 5th grades Jonathan Damon and I used to read Bop! magazine religiously. As such, I was very well-informed on the private lives of Kirk Cameron, Corey Haim, River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Mackenzie Astin, Corey Feldman, and any male kid actor who had a sitcom btw 1985-1987, as was Jon.
5) I'm slightly afraid of the dark, the water, and dark water.
6) I don't know how to play chess or poker.
7) Although I love a lot of the MUSIC in death metal & grindcore, I think 90% of the vocals are ludicrous. And not in a good way, but in a very fake, mannered, Scott Stapp way. There, I said it. I feel the same way about opera.
8) I sometimes fantasize that I'm the left fielder for The Cubs, and sometimes The Red Sox.
9) The only other job I'm qualified for besides being a musician/music teacher is a professional wrestling manager. Talk a lot of shit - loudly, wear ridiculous clothes, travel a lot, be in front of crowds, and not get my ass kicked? Yep, sign me up!
10) I think Kathy Griffin is hot.

Yes. "Security" is Peter Gabriel's strangest album ("Us" being his saddest, PGII being his weirdest, PGIII being his darkest, etc.) and "The Family & The Fishing Net" is one of his most over-looked songs. I applaud this group of muss for playing THESE songs, and playing them well.
Montage of : Intruder, Moribund the Burgermeister, On the Air, Family & the Fishing Net.-

Listening to the debut album by a 16-year old singer/guitarist who goes by the name "BILLY". The album, which I produced and plucked one-string bass on, is a collection of songs by The Backyardigans, The Wiggles, Mickey Mouse Club, The Beach Boys, & Little Richard. Adm Mnkff bashed drums, clarinet, mandolin, & theremin. Brittany Anjou banged keyboards, toy piano, and vibraphone. Nick Oddy strummed a plethora of guitars. Dave Sewelson honked some sax. It's one of the purest rock & roll albums I've ever heard, in the realm of Half Japanese, Wesley Willis, & Daniel Johnston. I cannot wait for the world to get to know "BILLY"!

This is one of the best bits of radio I've heard in a long time...if you like emotional, awkward, sweet, and funny entertainment, this is it.
Why Oh Why explores the intersections between love and technology, and overshares the answers. Host Andrea Silenzi speaks with friends, dating experts, guys she meets in bars, and her own Grandma Phyllis about dating today—leaving all the true-to-life cringes and gushy stuff intact.

HEY! 2 years ago today a bunch of geniuses all met up and paid tribute to the mighty Tap. It wasn't the smoothest show ever, but it was incredibly fun, insanely silly, and as this clip shows - a most rocking night indeed. 11/11/11 a day of infamy that will go down in history. I still envy us.

I had this amazing dream where Jack Skuller (Eddie Skuller) played a character named Johnny No-No in a sci-fi show called "Addicted To None". The premise of the show was that there were 24 hours left on Earth - whose place was being taken over by a planet run by an evil man called The One - and everyone was running around trying to travel to different planets and set up new their new lives. In the final moments before Johnny No-No was about to step onto a spaceship and zoom away, he was intercepted by one of The One's "Enforcers", who asked him if he had an addictive personality. Confused, Johnny said "What? No. I got business to take care of..." and before he knew it, The Enforcer yelled "We got him!" and a bunch of men in tan jumpsuits swarmed all over him. You see, The One believed that the downfall with Earth was that no one could limit their consumption. His goal with his new planet was to create an environment where everything was rationed and monitored, and where no one was allowed too much of ANYTHING: fun, love, food, clothes, sex, happiness, exercise, friends, conversation, etc. You could be having a conversation with someone and at an undetermined moment a loud, piercing squeal would sound for 30 seconds, signifying the end of this particular event. And so on...Why was Johnny targeted? Because The One had been closely monitoring him on Earth and pegged him as the only human worthy of being his successor. And so Johnny became Citizen H-400 on this experimental planet. Will he be able to leave and reconnect with his friends on other planets? Will he lose his his dynamic personality and become just another faceless body? Or will he single-handley defeat The One and change the entire course of the world? These questions and more will be answered on next week's episode of "Addicted To None".

Good for this dude...
Whitey, who has had songs on Breaking Bad and The Sopranos, has lashed out at Betty TV for asking to use his song for free.

This album has some of their heaviest/weirdest stuff, their stupidest lyrics, the best tones, and their most dated philosophies. But it also has the hook in "Leave It Alone", the stop-start section in "Mind Your Own Business", the chorus of "Auslander", the riff in "Postman", the freaky unison stuff in "This Little Pig", and the stupendous bass-playing at the end of this song. It's their Bill Clinton album.

TONIGHT Dot Wiggin of The Shaggs The Shaggs The Shaggs is back! (Dot Semprini) The Dot Wiggin Band will be playing WNYU's 40th Anniversary show at 285 Kent with Jad Fair/Gilles Reider, Blanche Blanche Blanche, & BEEF. It's gonna be a wonderful night of music, stories, and foot-foots/feet-feets.
The Shaggs debut album was not what most people who have heard music before would consider “good.” It was, however, undeniably unique. Frank Zappa said they were better than the Beatles, and Kurt Coba…

Tonight on "Minor Music", NYC power-pop trio The Sectionals will be stopping by to Rock, Rot, & Rule (in Tom Scharpling-speak). Elsewhere I'll be playing thrash art by Nick Didkovsky, Leo Lurkrot Didkovsky, & Malcolm Wazakwa Hoyt, some early 90's Greek death metal, some late 60's psychedelic proto-blues from Mike Fornatale, the first band ever signed to Dischord Records, and some old bullshit by a couple kids from Queens. Gonna be joyous. Live at 8pm on WFMU. 91.1/90.1 FM (and 91.9 FM in Rockland County. Stream it online at www.wfmu.org.

Here she is, right under Arcade Fire...Dot Wiggin (Dot Semprini)
Readers looking for a review of the complete Reflektor, the fourth album by Arcade Fire, will have to look elsewhere. My apologies. I did try to get the music in time for this post, really I did. But here’s what it’s like for most rock critics in 2013:

Here she is, Dot Semprini!
It’s outsider music’s Greatest Story Ever Told: at a visit to a palm reader, the mother of Austin Wiggin, Jr. was told that her son would someday marry a woman with strawberry blonde hair, have two sons after she (the mother herself, not the strawberry blonde) died, and that his daughters would fo...

So about two years ago I had this idea that Keith Morris Abrams, Nick Oddy, Adm Mnkff and I should dress like the cover of "Philosophy Of The World" and cover The Shaggs' album. Then The Rock Shop asked me to do said show there - as they were still pleased with the turnout from my Spinal Tap show from 11/11/11. Then Amy Miles and I decided to make a birthday celebration out of it. Then I invited other musicians to take part in it. Then I made it a benefit for The Fremont Town Hall, and through them I met Dot Semprini, the former Dot Wiggin. Then I took a shot in the dark and asked if she and her family and her friends wanted to attend. Then they said yes, and life hasn't been the same since. To wit: today October 29, 2013 Alternative Tentacles Records (Jello Biafra) releases the debut album by The Dot Wiggin Band. 13 songs, features new/old songs by Dot, new/old songs by Dot & I, re-recordings of Shaggs forgotten gems, a song that I wrote for Dot, and a cover of Dot's favorite song of all-time. I don't know if good things happen to good people or weird things happen to weird people, but if you want proof that there is such a thing as karma, please go to www.dotwigginband.com and celebrate the comeback of you Your Pal Dot-Dot. An historic day for those who KNOW.
