(Es geht wieder hinaus, There will be more light.) Winter darkness in Heidelberg is usually beautified by spending time at our International Film Festival in November and the lovely Christmas market - but, alas, not this year. There is a nice winter custom in Bavaria called 'Rauhnächte' (smoke nights), when people burn incense in their homes 'and animal stalls', or the more modern version, lighting a bonfire, cozying up in your woolens and mittens and sip away at your Glühwein (mulled spicy red wine): www.bavaria.by... We had a little ceremony Sunday night, we burned a wooden statue our friend made and gave us for that purpose - it was covered in sparklers and had a big globe on top representing the sun, and we burned some sage. We usually drink Glühwein at the German Christmas Market here (totally kitschy, but I love it!) - of course that's cancelled this year. I'll have to make some at home.

	♥ 2:04pm YETI BOB: @Heidee - A few of my friends started this club in 2011 www.chaosbrewclub.net and I finally became an apprentice brewer (after years just hanging out there and drinking beer other people made). Of course, during COVID only 2 people at a time are allowed in the brewhouse, and there are no social events. But we're still making beer. Right now I am fermenting an American Porter with chestnuts, and an Irish Stout with chocolate and raspberries. Both should be ready in a few more weeks. I've tasted the partially-ready results and I think the end product will be good.

We had a little ceremony Sunday night, we burned a wooden statue our friend made and gave us for that purpose - it was covered in sparklers and had a big globe on top representing the sun, and we burned some sage. We usually drink Glühwein at the German Christmas Market here (totally kitschy, but I love it!) - of course that's cancelled this year. I'll have to make some at home.

Of course, during COVID only 2 people at a time are allowed in the brewhouse, and there are no social events. But we're still making beer. Right now I am fermenting an American Porter with chestnuts, and an Irish Stout with chocolate and raspberries. Both should be ready in a few more weeks. I've tasted the partially-ready results and I think the end product will be good.
