Gina, it wasn't too long before he passed away. A friend of mine had an extra ticket and we were in the first row to boot. My memory is fuzzy on the backstory details, but he spoke of a woman he was living with at the time, and how their relationship ultimately ended and inspired the song. It was like a wistful reminiscence of a time, told without bitterness and with love. I'm tearing up again just thinking about it.
