	11:56am P-90: Carlos Alomar is a hugely underrated musician. Not in the sense of being completely overlooked or obscure, just under-recognized for the scale of his talents and the scope of his accomplishments.

	12:17pm DG: Agree about the Coens. Just watched "Hudsucker Proxy" on PBS a few weeks ago...their attempt at a screwball comedy, with fast-paced dialogue, tough dames, etc. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. They're more concerned w/style and camera tricks than creating characters you care about or are interested in....most of the time. That said, I liked "Lebowski," thought it was funny, partly due to Bridges' performance (it's been awhile since I've seen it though) & loved "Fargo", liked some others. But yes, their track record, to put it mildly, is mixed. (And then Bridges was so unintelligible in their "True Grit" remake they should have had subtitles.) That '60s folk music film was their usual mix of nihilism and ridicule too.
	♥ 12:18pm Hughie Considine: Just read a list of Coen Bros movies ranked, and "Intolerable Cruelty" was listed as the worst. And I love that one.
	♥ 12:19pm Squints: phat, that's my favorite thing in instrumental breaks, where it almost breaks down but not quite. Like how low can let the RPMs go in second gear and not stall out. There's a moment in the strings break in Left Banke's I've Got Something On My Mind that's like that. It's like Wile E Coyote suspended momentarily in air before, well, you know.
	12:19pm paul: I think Alicia Silverstone's career peaked with Clueless. Was she in anything good after that?
	12:19pm clarke: i don't hate Pulp Fiction, but find it has little to do with actual pulp fiction. i still contend that tarantino made his first real FILM last year - take out the bloodbath toward the end and a perfect one.

	♥ 12:37pm Listener Scott: Yeah, the ending of Llewyn Davis was a callback to the opening, where he leaves the stage, gets beaten up, and pulls himself together over the course of the film. But at the end, it's the same scene only Dylan has basically beaten up Davis except on stage, where he culturally obviates Davis.

A small-ish drama, as opposed to the too-long, overblown films he later did (I couldn't get "Boogie Night" after that ridiculous scene between Mark W. & his mom, where he says "i'm gonna be somebody"....I thought it was actually supposed to be a parody of showbiz movies). However, I did see "There will be Blood" on IFC awhile back & thought it was great, can't imagine how it went over on the big screen.

Just watched "Hudsucker Proxy" on PBS a few weeks ago...their attempt at a screwball comedy, with fast-paced dialogue, tough dames, etc. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. They're more concerned w/style and camera tricks than creating characters you care about or are interested in....most of the time. That said, I liked "Lebowski," thought it was funny, partly due to Bridges' performance (it's been awhile since I've seen it though) & loved "Fargo", liked some others. But yes, their track record, to put it mildly, is mixed. (And then Bridges was so unintelligible in their "True Grit" remake they should have had subtitles.) That '60s folk music film was their usual mix of nihilism and ridicule too.

There's a moment in the strings break in Left Banke's I've Got Something On My Mind that's like that. It's like Wile E Coyote suspended momentarily in air before, well, you know.

A small-ish drama, as opposed to the too-long, overblown films he later did (I couldn't get "Boogie Night" after that ridiculous scene between Mark W. & his mom, where he says "i'm gonna be somebody"....I thought it was actually supposed to be a parody of showbiz movies). However, I did see "There will be Blood" on IFC awhile back & thought it was great, can't imagine how it went over on the big screen.
