Favoriting Little Records with The Big G: Playlist from May 9, 2020 Favoriting

“Little Records” is a two hour radio show hosted by “The Big G” focusing on the little Records, both literal and figurative. 45’s of high quality but lowly chart stature. Mostly we’ll be covering Blues, Jazz, R&B, Country and Rock & Roll, but the show is freeform so anything that’s appeared on a 45RPM record, starting with RCA’s introduction of the format in 1949 is fair game.

I'm crushed man. Under the weight of a million pyramids. Little Richard forever and always!!!! The Killer, alone, must now pump his keys... for all those who've gone before, Richard Penniman, Fats Domino, Jim Dickinson, and a multitude of Ivy ticklers from here to infinity.
Amen-
The Big G

Me too, Greg. So much loss. Glad we are here to keep the flame alive.

Yup. Really too bad about Richard. He unleashed a lot of rock and roll energy into the world. He was unique, and that ain't easy to do, and it ain't easy to be.

Richard was a drag queen in Macon, Ga. in the 1950's. Let that sink in. My Dad used to tell me stories about seeing him in the parking lot of the burger joing (small town fun) doing the hand jive. And when he played the Auditorium, whites were upstairs, band and cool kids were downstairs. In my bones. RIP.

Howdy, all!

StringOFperils:

I saw him once, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, of all places, in winter. What a fate for a southern boy, even for one night. Mid '70s. I think he was coked out of his mind. Gave the band a really hard time. Needless to say, memorable.

Wheels on Fire! great band, played at FMU in 2010, ending their set with this very song!
Avatar 8:13pm

Man, I forgot how great "Tator" was. Like Little Richard, Bobby Lee Trammell made great records over a span of decades.

It's on my bedside table! I've been rereading it recently, because we were supposed to do doc @ Richard for PBS but the funding never came thru. Wonder what will happen with that project now. Charles White was a consultant. I want something real.
