RIP Eddie Siino of Cryptic Soup

Cryptic Soup, Mix-o-Lydian Studio, spring 1990-3

Cryptic Soup Guitarist Jonny Rosenblatt with Drummer Eddie Siino. In the spring of 1990, the group (these two along with Eddie's twin brother & guitarist Vinnie Siino, Bassist Edwood Gresack and Keyboardist Kathy Ruopp) were recording their album, "salty pretzel dog logic," at Mix-o-Lydian Studio. in Boonton, NJ. Eddie and Vinnie were the main songwriters/singers, and the others also sang backing vocals. I sat in on many sessions, engineered by my friend Don Sternecker, who taught me a lot about mixing music. Hi L.O.T., Andrew and Upsetter. Sorry you missed Starless. Nice cover! You'll have to check out the archive for that one, but it'll be worth it.

Hi Wendy! It's been a long time. Nice to have you visiting from Upper Cheeseland. ;D Henry, you might've gotten it through Bandcamp. David send out a note to friends and fans when he released it.

I never had any idea that Miles covered David Crosby. This is *so* cool.

One of my favorite covers ever is Rasputina doing "Baby Got Back"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Parq, I didn't either. But my husband Peter and I saw David Crosby on Live From Here last Saturday. He did "Guinnevere" and Peter mentioned it. So, of course, I had to play the two together. Oddly, David Crosby is working on a new album with some local jazz musicians and Snarky Puppy producing. The results should be interesting.
  10:20pm
Peter K.:

I had a feeling you’d play these two tracks!

TDK60:

Miles had good taste.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm

Miles later on did "Time After Time", which I've always felt is a way-underrated song.

I like when Yo La Tengo gets loud, but I also like when they come in on little cat feet. This is really lovely.

Hi KP, ztnap, katharsis and antonio. Sometimes I do requests but maybe not tonight. Wendy, there's lots of that little cat feet loudness on Yo La Tengo's new one.

Interesting show tonight, Irene. Very nice tribute. I love a proper tribute to the deceased.

Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks for the shout-out on your last mic break, Irene!
In all fairness, I may have stolen the YLT "cat feet" description from my dear Glenn L. If I did, a tip of the pen (keyboard?) to him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Irene Trudel:

Glad you're enjoying the tribute to Eddie. Another great underappreciated band like so many in this world. Glad they were in mine.

Wendy, the little cat feet reference actually comes from the Carl Sandberg poem, "Fog"

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Irene, thank you! I knew it was tumbling around in my head for a reason.
And that poem is beautiful and describes fog so perfectly.

Wow! Sandy, then A&E, then Susan ,then Rasputina, then Meg!!! That is a POWERFUL string of awesomeness right there!

I do believe that the lovely and talented Eliza Rickman is just now on tour with Rasputina if I am not mistaken. And I do believe that they (Eliza for sure at least) will be hereabouts in my neighborhood in Big D (Dallas) in, oh, around two weeks or less from now.
