Good thing profanity is allowed, otherwise I'd be on my way to Gitmo!

Don't be a drop out, Doug! It's cool to stay in school.

I need to change my diaper. Is it Richard Pryor's birthday today?

You'll probably like the lists that are over on Radio Boredcast stream: Twitch by Kenny G, most everything by Michael Ruby (who hates Kenny G, BTW), and some of those supercuts from youtube, like all Robin's "Holys" from the 1966 BATMAN.

Charlie We Hardly Knew Ye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Rich in Washington:

Charlie's (then) imminent death finally prompted me to buy a proper vinyl copy of the infamous LIES album. It's on its way after the slow-as-molasses dealer finally mailed it. Maybe he was hoping to double its price or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Rich in Washington:

Charlie's sort of losing it within the course of this song.
Avatar 1:20pm
Thatchmo:

Certainly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Rich in Washington:

There's at least on pre-Tate/La Bianca interview recording with him where he sounds really sedate, almost normal. He was in full on Jesus/Messiah/Guru mode. It's interesting to hear. I don't know the full source, but ran across it when doing a show on the 40th anniversary of the death of the Summer of Loveâ„¢
Avatar 1:24pm
still b/p:

One of the articles on Charlie's death speculated that if he'd been executed and didn't show up occasionally in images and interviews to extend his stint as the still-living, "crazy Charlie" Epitome of Evil, he might've been mostly forgotten.
I say that's bullshit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Webhamster Henry:

the Billboard changed yesterday to a Clay Pigeon billboard
  1:25pm
queems:

they just changed the billboard anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Rich in Washington:

I think if he'd been executed back in the day, the then militant left would've elevated him into some kind of martyr or he'd be embraced more fully as a counterculture hero. I think letting him jabber on to anyone listening sort of disabused anyone of the the notion of him being an egalitarian peacenik.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
Rich in Washington:

I also think Manson's embracing of ecological stuff was sort of disingenuous. He often said he just wanted to go live in the desert and be left alone but I don't think he'd survive a minute without someone taking care of him, either his hippy harem or a prison cook.
Avatar 1:33pm
Thatchmo:

Neil Young said Charlie would sit on Dennis Wilson's porch and sing improvisationally in rhyme for hours: that seems to indicat some great level of intellectual functioning.

If only they had put LL Cool J on Lucky Charms boxes...
Avatar 1:54pm
Thatchmo:

That's a nice tie-in ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
Rich in Washington:

I don't remember if it was Neil or Terry Melchior, but the consensus was that Charlie, like a lot of self-taught outsider musicians, could improvise great songs and melodies which he couldn't reproduce on demand, in a studio, etc., so it sort of hindered his viability from any commercial standpoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember Dennis Cooper's contribution to those wonderful Freeway Records spoken word compilations in the 80s. That was sort of my introduction to him.

I am pretty sure it was Warner Bros. I remember because everything on that LP's jacket was written by hand in what looked like pencil. I thought that was pretty funny for some reason.

Nope. My bad. It was Bizarre/Reprise. I coulda sworn I remember reading Warner Bros. on it.
