  2:38pm ?:

So thankful to be spending Black Friday with you and not the shopping mall. My wife wants to know if you are going to social work school, since that is what she did mid-life.
  2:39pm Dean:

You exaggerate, @Doug. Can't be more than 385. Lotsa beer, too. Every time I shop with my kids I faux-complain that the only thing missing from BB is a beer section. Then we stumble upon the aisle, and I'm like a kid in a candy store, "Wow, they finally added a beer section!"

  3:00pm Johanna Climenko:

Hi Doug, I'm Bob's wife Johanna. We've chatted in the past. It's wonderful to be hearing your splendid show on a leisurely Black Friday. It is almost like having a visit. I wanted to cheer you on in completing SW school. I went to SW school after 25 years of working as a dance/movement therapist, and a mind/body psychotherapist. Administrators of the hospitals and clinics that I worked in kept trying to send me to SW school. I kept saying 'you couldn't pay me enough'. Long story short, I ended up loving it. Twenty years later, I'm proud to have LCSW-R added to my credentials. Social Workers are generally cool activists. Congratulations, I hope you are enjoying it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Doug Schulkind:

@geezerette
On my way to work this past Tuesday, I had to stop the car and let 20 (I counted them) wild turkeys cross the road. On my way home from work, I encountered them again crossing back!
  3:03pm Dean:

@geezerette: They haven't made it to our street, but they are definitely in the 'hood. My daughter likes to visit a park a few blocks away. She calls it Turkey Park, and the turkeys hung out at my son's former elementary school (along with Canada geese). A few days ago we were driving in the 'hood as the turkeys crossed. One walked directly up to the car and squawked. Didn't even approach a gobble. I informed the family that the turkey was saying, "Fuck Thanksgiving!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Doug Schulkind:

@Johanna
Wow! Reading that gave me goosebumps. It is a wild ride being back in school after so long. I am a good 30 years older than most of my classmates. (I adore them. So idealistic and inspiring.)

In the UK they say "polymaths."
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Brian in UK:

  3:11pm Dean:

Heh, my son just started singing, "...the lion sleeps tonight..." Caught the quote. A few days ago I played some Aretha Franklin. He was all, "That woman can sing!"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Just the other day I was chatting with a resident at the nursing home where I'm doing my internship. The woman had been a gospel singer when she was younger. We started talking about music and the subject led to talking about Aretha singing gospel in her father's church at the age of 14.

  3:51pm Johanna Climenko:

Doug, I was a group work major in SW school. A professor suggested we 'do a needlepoint pillow saying 'Trust the Group.' BTW, I worked in a psychogeriatric program for 11 years, and we had clients who were children of slaves! We had amazing music therapy sessions, you can imagine the songs we sang! When Bob and I were in New Orleans, we happened on a Sunday afternoon tea dance(!) where the 'New Leviathon Foxtrot Orchestra' was playing.' People were doing the cakewalk to songs my clients sang. An elderly woman cakewalked to me as I was singing along. She said 'You're too young to know this.' I said 'Apparently not!'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Doug Schulkind:

@Johanna
Amazing! I am specializing in geriatric social work. The powerful connections and humanity you are describing are chiefly the reason why. Thank you so much for sharing this.
