"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

I'm surprised Judas Priest doesn't have a song called "Metal Manuevers".

the title of this song reminds me that I'm supporting the "women boycott twitter" today (by not using twitter) I'd give you the hashtag for more information, but....

John, I went to a funeral yesterday at a glitzy new suburban megachurch, and I am thinking the real money is in contemporary christian music. Maybe WFMU needs to work some of that in?

@melinda - if only this stuff were hippie jesus music. It might have at least been vaguely tolerable, instead of just plain creepy.

Hey, mauri! @9:50. Just back from the garden. This Fall has been so mild, there are still sweet snap peas, bush beans, tomatoes, and parsley and sage. Been extra-war! How about there? Still colder than usual?

persimmons still abundant, pickable by halloween. some varmint damage. meyer lemons fully ripe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am

@Sem that would be fun. My garden report would make everyone else's look better by comparison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
melinda:

fleep what do you do with persimmons? I had an elderly relative who made really bland cookies with them.
Avatar 11:05am

Nice Show!
Avatar 11:07am
fleep:

melinda these are fuyus, they are best eaten like an apple when ripe, and the flavor is intense, sweet with cinnamon/nutmeg undertones. the hachiya kind for baking are kind of meh.
Avatar 11:09am
Wild Neil:

My non-gmo organic tomato plant (which is about 7 feet tall now growing on a conical trellis) is still producing. Some tomatoes look to weigh about 4 pounds while others are about golf ball size.
I used to listen exclusively to Klyte in Albequerque back in the late 90's. They were a Christian Rock station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
melinda:

That sounds yummy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
coelacanth∅:

hi melinda (...delayed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
melinda:

I usually have 2 cherry tomato plants of differing varieties in containers every year, and every year one does way better or worse than the other, for no clear reason. Sungolds are usually good but were a total dud this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am
coelacanth∅:

mmm persimmons. the first ones i ever had were hachiya and once very ripe were extremely sweet and as delicious as the fuyus i've had since. i did not know that hachiyas are usually less delicious for raw eating but it's true they have been every time since that first time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
coelacanth∅:

that is strange, melinda. sun golds are usually dependable.
  11:22am
sim:

Liking the Zion Rocketship 'tude. The sneer.
  11:23am
maja:

Hi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
steveo:

ditto on rocketship; possible contemporary christian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
melinda:

Yeah. The less tasty variety I planted in the container that did poorly the year before really thrived. I buy plants from different farmers ever year so I wonder if that has something do with it. I'm an inattentive gardener, but the plants get the same attention/inattention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am
coelacanth∅:

could be the farm, could be the ancestry of each plant, could be subtleties we don't notice - like a slight difference in the amount of light or air circulation between 2 plants.
i once worked at an agway store. we'd get all of a specific variety from one farm, try to treat them all the same, but still the ones at one end of the table would do better than at the other end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
coelacanth∅:

...or - maybe one plant is consistently the first one pollenating insects get to when they're visiting your plants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
Polyus:

Sorta Wyatt-esque vocals on that last one.
