Greetings all. Mr. McKenna was a special guest on the Old Codger's radio show in 1931. They were both extremely grumpy individuals. Codger still is, actually.

Lyle:

The Buzzcocks. I remember those boys. If you stay in this business long enough like I have, you cross paths with everyone eventually. I first encountered the Buzzcocks in, what was it, '81? I was working with the John Davidson show, playing a flurry of one-nighters across the upper midwest. We were playing some type of county fair, I've played a million of 'em. Mr. Davidson was cranky that day as I recall. It was hot. The gig was outdoors in the afternoon. Direct sunlight. Mr. Davidson's makeup was running and his hairspray was stinging his eyes. Several times he turned to the band to tell us to quiet down, the volume of the band evidentally irritating him. By the time we got to "Windmills of Your Mind," he melted down altogether. The Buzzcocks were on the side of the stage, checking us out. They were having a "right good laugh," as they would have put it, at Mr. Davidson's expense. The show wound down and we finished to a polite smattering of applause. The Buzzcocks went on and literally tore the place apart. On the bus, Mr. Davidson apoligized to us for having lost his cool. He was a good man. Later that night at Denny's, someone sent Mr Davidson a complimentary Moons Over My Hammy. We all turned to look, to see who had been so generous. It was the Buzzcocks, who uniformy tipped their matching bowler hats to us. Finally, Mr. Davidson smiled.
  5:06pm
Lyle:

*uniformly. My hands are a little stiff these days. Trombone oil leaks into the dermis. Hardens the tissues.

Lyle, are you saving these playlist tidbits for a full-length memoir?
  5:08pm
Lyle:

Oh, there just an old trombone player's stories. Glad you enjoy them. MenfussMike I lost track of him after that. Not sure what he did. May or may not be the same fella. Enjoying the music!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Irwin:

Lyle, are your storytelling skills verbal? The new Woofmoo morning show could use your contributions. Perhaps you can be an occasional "stringer."
Avatar 5:17pm
Old Dave:

Trombone stories would be great! I played in 6th grade. If only a Ska band had shown up to demonstrate how cool that instrument can be... might have been a lifelong thing.

Thank God for archives, I say. Some shows (like this one!) deserve hearing a
few times. The stuff I've learned from FMU is amazing.

I heard that, O.D. Something about the "shared experience" is great when you can be there for the live broadcast, but archiving is why God invented the internet.

efd quoted as saying, 'Archives are like compilations w/ talking.' Never used archives - cause there's *always* great new FMU being broadcast! However - when not home I listen to podcasts. Long ago past the point I feel time away from FMU is actually good for both of us...it's a five year mission to go where no FMUvian has gone before...
Avatar 5:57pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...yerknow - if I got contempo enuff to stream on the run...just stick the wireless interwebizer in our frontal lobes & let's get on w/ this Age of ♒Aquarius they're all so enthused about...my identity wasn't worth much anyhow...
