I remember the first time I heard the Beatles; it was 1966 or 1967. I loved their music and still do. At the time I thought to myself....gee...finally some decent and wonderful music to listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Gary:

Mom, you heard them before that, because I have a very vivid memory of hearing Hard Days Night in the kitchen with you on the radio

Yes, but which kitchen???? Mine or Arden's?

fwiw, i got to listen to that 50th anniversary Sgt Pepper stereo reissue thing that just came out a couple weeks ago, since the guy the gf + I stay with on weekends is a big vinyl LP fan. Mostly what I noticed about it is that Ringo is mixed WAY up in the mix. Never heard the drums that much.

Btw - Tom Dowd @ Atlantic Records in the U.S. had had eight tracks for some time - one prominent example, anyhow. TheBeatles @ EMI in England had brilliant & dedicated help from the very British likes of Producer George Martin & Engineer Geoff Emerick - but only four tracks until the White Album. Their last recorded together - 'Abbey Road' in the 2nd part of 1969 - is done w/ more modern technology (their Mono box set ends w/ the White Album late 1968) - different really than the whole rest of their oeuvre - has synthesizer on it even...I had been under the impression Brian Wilson only had four tracks to do 'Pet Sounds' in 1966, but I was wrong - he had more there in Los Angeles....Still! It's like doing the Sistene Chapel ceiling w/ eight colors or something...

...Brian barely had eight tracks - mostly for those INCOMPARABLE vocals apparently... :
en.wikipedia.org...
If you haven't heard the 'Pet Sounds Sessions' box set - there's a whole disc of vocal only tracks. About which I say: GAWD.
Oh geez - it's the Wilson Bros.' dad - Murry...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Gary:

RevRab, does the dad appear on that box set?
Avatar 8:36pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

No - I don't think so @ all. I don't think 'Pet Sounds' would have been possible w/ Murry around as 'Manager' still in Brian's way. We need a real historian here...or some interwebz...
