I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

ICE CREAM GANG'S TURF WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like that ice cream vendor faces...

Bad ice cream puns aside, that story is wild. I see our friend to the left has declared his fealty to Mister Softee.

What happened? Those ice cream vendors used to all be in Good Humor.

Good one, David!

Good afternoon Mayuko, James, David, and other ice cream loving listeners

I remember playing a Playstation game called Twisted Metal 2 that featured a killer clown named Sweettooth driving a ice cream truck loaded Death Race style with weapons. I recall it any time I see a truck to this day.

My guess was this was Nitzer Ebb, and I was not far off.

I don't think there are many (any?) ice cream truck over here. With Ramadan, not sure it would work in my neighborhood these days

"Etre assis ou danser" translates to "sitting or dancing"
Avatar 12:14pm

You can eat ice cream sitting or dancing.

There was one ice cream truck jingle I used to hear often in Tokyo, that always say "if you don't hurry, you'll miss me!" to make the neighbor children anxious. Not cool strategy!

Hi, all. The official National Ice Cream Day isn't until July 16, but I'll have a scoop today anyway. www.timeanddate.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm

I guess you're still not allowed to bring ice cream into the studio, so someone with an ice cream truck should consider stopping by Montgomery St around 2pm
Avatar 12:27pm

Hi Ken! Yes that important date is still far ahead. It was National Donut Day yesterday though, and I celebrate it HARD.

Don't worry, it looks like Master Softee was a Manhattan thing

This Disastrous Consequences track was quite nice

Hey Fred... I'd like to come back this month at least a few times because my wife and baby are in Beijing (I'm joining them in July). I was hoping to temporarily go back to my old slot, but it's being taken over in a few weeks.

Useless stock trivia: Not uncommon for Microsoft to be called Mister Softee by traders, some of whom in the roaring 90s may have nicked out of their day-trading office for a vanilla cone or two during periods of weak volatility.

Hi Mayuko & All-

I just saw this in the New York Times and couldn't resist passing it along:

‘Pop Goes the Weasel’ at Carnegie Hall
"On Wednesday, as patrons were heading into Carnegie Hall for the Met Orchestra’s Mahler program, a big ice cream truck pulled up on 57th Street and parked right near the entrance to the hall. The vendor switched on the truck’s prerecorded jingle: a tinkling, out-of-tune, rhythmically jittery version of “Pop Goes the Weasel.” Not what you want to hear before the “Titan” Symphony."

Looks like ce cream trucks muscling-in on the classical music industry now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
northguineahills:

Even in NYC, I ate ice cream all year (and I'm lactose intolerant). I remember visiting my grandparents in WV for Xmas as a kid and being disappointed and confused that the Dairy Cream was closed for the winter. The one in my neighborhood down south was open all year.

A few months ago I was trying to make a list of some quintessential elements of high summer - the smell of ice cream drippings on a hot sidewalk an hour after the truck has passed was one. Seems gross but one of the things that means summer to me. I was going to take that list and try to gin up some sort of rambling W.G. Sebald type essay with them. Still on the "to-do" list

Aside from the soft-serve, what did folks usually get from ice cream trucks as kids or older-than-kids? I tended to go for snow cones or those ice cream popsicles with the white and pink crumbled-up things.

hey Mayuko--yep I told him I would fill in... But I'm still teaching Monday-Thursday Morning and Nights, so I don't have much flexibility. I was hoping to get a temporary regular slot in June--because I have a bunch of stuff I want to play--but I guess it's too complicated.

Well, in two weeks I finally have a face-to-face interview for hydrology/soil science environmental firm. I only applied for it in February and have had 3 phone interviews. It's actually a job I'd want to do in a place (Gainesville, FL) w/ low cost of living, a music/art scene, plenty of good restaurants, and I can actually bike to work if I so choose.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm

today's comment's board looks weirdly 3D. The white letters pop up and the black ones stay in the ground.

I remembered reading Rudy Rucker's sci-fi book "Software," which has a sinister Mister Softee truck run by some kind of artificial inteligent gang that kidnaps people and takes their software from the hardware brain. I don't remember the story so well but the human bodies are discarded, but their mind is sucked into the AI pool or something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm

Damn it Dean, beat me to it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm

Jason, you should seize Mayuko's offer. She could do a third hour but almost never does. You could "fill-in" for that time while she's eating ice cream downstairs

Read part of Jason's posted article (hard to read while you dog walk), read other stuff of a similar vein. We're all hopelessly addicted, sugar is in almost everything. Went on a "detox diet" 2 summers ago, made it through, but wound up back in my regular "poisons" little by little (caffeine was the last back... Recently, though there are articles on the health benefits of caffeine and chocolate)
