Hi James, Hi Everybody!

Doug Schulkind:

Haha! The professor asked us to bring our laptops to class. But I am Fiveashing instead of note-taking. Haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Jeff Golick:

...and that is how you do the Mess Around, @Doug.

Hi Matt and Matters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Jeff Golick:

Houserockers!

Jeff Golick:

I loved learning recently that U2 opened for J. Geils at one point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Jeff Golick:

I'm sorry for ruining today's comments section, Matt.
I do have that certain something when it comes to ending conversations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Matt F:

I just assumed there was no one else here! No Worries Jeff!

JARO:

Hi Dinky, WCOZ for life!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Matt F:

"Crank It Up!" oh wait, that was WAAF.
  2:44pm
JARO:

I should've listened closer as a youth instead of just going the knee-jerk punk attitude route to what I thought was cheezy commercial rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Jeff Golick:

I still have Big Mattress flashbacks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Parq:

I really need this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm
doctorjazz:

don't think I've heard this "Land of 1000 Dances", cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm
Parq:

Regrettably, all of the news stories portrayed them as an 80s band who happened to have some obsucre early stuff of some kind or other in prior years. Hey, I dig "Centerfold", but to handwave everything they did before that? Sheesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm
Jeff Golick:

It's like the band was stuck in some kind of freeze frame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Parq:

Touche!

Thx Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm

Great set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Jeff Golick:

I'd forgotten just how ugly the Freeze Frame LP cover art was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
doctorjazz:

I first heard this Valentinos version of Lookin for a Love on FMU (?this show? Think so). It is just fabulous (though Giles did a great job with it).

The words "reputa the beauta" will be forever lodged in my prefrontal cortex. (Thanks, probably, to WBCN.)

Famous for the wrong things.

Just got Jim Dickinson memoir in today's mail--hope there's a Carmen McRae/Dixie Flyers section.
Avatar 3:31pm
Monica:

don't squeeze the carmen, matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Matt F:

Itchin' to read that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Parq:

Monica, not *that* well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the Dickinson memoir tip. The chapter on him from Robert Gordon's IT CAME FROM MEMPHIS is fascinating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
listener james from westwood:

Burton and the track that follows are a weekly highlight for me, in case nobody's emerged from the woodwork yet and praised this mini jazz break amid the killer 7-inches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Dominick:

Arrgh! missing show due to Avid upgrade SNAFU
Will have to mine the archive later
  3:47pm
Dungaroos Kipawah:

The "McRae section" is barely two pages long, but it's got some good meat on it and was clearly one of JLD's favorite things that he and the Dixie Flyers played on. An odd but inspired pairing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
doctorjazz:

Great way to end, Great concert track! See you next time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm

Thanks everybody. Next time indeed.
