Time isn't an issue. We've tried the overnight method. We like this method better. In our five qt. Belgian enamel dutch oven with the heavy lid, I bring 4 qts water to a boil with a half tsp. kosher salt. Stir in 1 cup steel cut oats and bring to a simmer. Put it in the oven at 350 on the middle rack. Stir it at 20 and 40 minutes. Serve it at 60 minutes.

Oh yeah, re the pop-up player: it's not your set-up. The player will often need to be paused and then "play" again to resolve the hiccuping that comes with a new live show coming on.

Somebody flagged this recent story about Amirkhanian: http://www.musicandliterature.org/features/2017/2/2/restless-minimalism-lexical-music-and-the-text-sound-compositions-of-charles-amirkhanian

It mentions Ernst Toch. I work with his one of his grandsons.

Murray's "Dark Star" is, if not great, at least a deserved jazz exploration into the Dead's thing. He basically played the album at a Prospect Park concert around the time of its release w/a highlight being the playing of James Spaulding who I always loved from his days w/Sun Ra. Along w/Branford M, the Dead also jammed a couple of times w/Ornette in outings that, again, if not exemplary, were notable for the courage of all the players. Jerry played on Ornette's "Virgin Beauty" LP tho hard to distinguish him much in the mix.

Love Ava Luna. Think this is the first time I heard them on FMU

Hearing quite a bit of hot guitar (including the Dylan and Rigby tracks).

There are a lot of worlds from Hank, Sr. to Ornette - Jerry could move between them all. Bob Dylan *did* say that...

@Scraps: I keep waiting for them to make that really great album.

Love Ornette, admire Garcia, but (imo) Virgin Beauty was a cold album (and the three tracks Garcia played on).

Jeff, I agree that Ava Luna's strength is individual songs, not (so far) albums.

Story I heard about Dead/Branford shows (may not by didn't rehearse, Branford was oly slightly familiar with the muse. Jeffy would run through the chords before the show for him. When he got to Dark Star, he told Branford "This is boring, only 1 chord. But the fans seem to like it..."

Great show, Jeff.
Report back on the Micros later.
