Listener Robert:

Were they just talking about George Kuchar? That guy was a riot, wish I'd known him sooner (& that he'd died later). I was introduced to him by his fellow experimental film student from many years earlier, John A. Keel. They were working in NY ca. 1960 when the home 8 mm sound & color equipment was new. Meanwhile in the Midwest, another friend-to-be of mine, David Lindelof, was working on the same thing with John Strathman & Brian Lamb.
  4:53pm
mcginniwa in wellington, nz:

I showed an experimental film work that was alternating clear leader and black with silence and white noise as presentation at film school. Thought it was by Peter... can't remember. Anyway, people flipped out (in a disrespectful way). I almost quit the class. Weird how minimalism can be so powerful.

Stringed instruments are kind of ideal overtone generators in the 1st place - then when you add Electricity & Amplification...As a gittar diddler - I find the fiddle to be filled w/ angels & demons - quite a strange delicate little mystical little power elf...People are still getting up to speed w/ loops & things now...

I have a copy of the Table of the Elements CD issue of John Cale's Sun Blindness Music, acquired in 2001 at DGM. It remains sealed. Yet I vividly remember hearing it and deciding to buy it when I visited the store.

I've lived in the Bay Area for almost 16 years, been to Napa precisely twice, once to a restaurant to meet friends one night, the other time to attend a book talk at the Mondavi winery. Anyway, didn't "Sideways" take place further south on the Central Coast?
