I know the clocks have moved but I think that I have overshot.
Grant Wood's American Gothic is on view over here for the first time. Hope to see it soon. The 20s/30s was such a prolific time for artistic works in America. Whether they be music, painting or writing. America has never recovered!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:20am Brian in UK:

PS loving Will Rogers book, his comments circa 1924/5 are contemporary. Albeit given soft targets like politicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am Doug Schulkind:

Thank you, Brian in UK, for bringing some culture to this low-class joint.

Let it rain GREEN on today's Give the Drummer Some. Good day, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am David D:

Early tailgating today at the Marathon pre-game show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am David D:

Annie: "Goom morgen" is actually how Guten Morgen often sounds in rapid/natural speech.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28am Doug Schulkind:

If you need to throw up, David D, please just face away from my Porsche convertible.
  8:30am David:

A green Porsche.. cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am David D:

I'd offer everyone some good German beer for the party but I'm not sure how it would react to the green coloring.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:42am Brian in UK:

@David D Our daughter went to the Azores and brought some green tea back. Said it was from the only tea plantation in Europe. Half way to America. Go figure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am David D:

@Brian: I've heard it's quite beautiful there but didn't know about the tea. Was it especially good? Another place to go someday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am Doug Schulkind:

The Azores always sounds to me like something the requires medical attention.
Avatar 8:55am glenn:

azores can be assuaged with ardent applications of aloe and arnica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am Doug Schulkind:

Aloe, glenn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am David D:

Aloe? Ha!
  8:59am David:

My friend's grandmother served me tea

I could not handle it.. too strong. Poured

David the tea was OK but not as good as some Chinese varieties. They did some diving there, many wrecks, of the sailing ship category. Very verdant.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am fred:

@DC Khlam: The orange one shares your confusion, which is why the renaming is on hold. Trumpville sounds small, Trumpton sounds weird. I hear he likes TrumpTrump as grand enough
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:38am Brian in UK:

Dang...wish I had speakers at work so I could hear my name called out. New work situation makes listening difficult, but I still support what you do, Doug!
Avatar 9:41am Scraps:

Not really competition, to me. Lots of shows I don't listen to at all, and without Drummer I would not listen to FMU much less. Ken is canny, I think
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:42am Gary:

Super love this album! Pledge for it for a mere $20! pledge.wfmu.org...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:43am Alex In Illinois:

@Brian in UK: When I had a free form show, on my college's radio station, back in the 1980's, I liked the Toy Dolls, but often whenever I played their music, I would get angry calls from listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am David D:

Alex, angry calls can be a very good sign.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Webhamster Henry:

Which brings up another point - it's always been the case that there are more WFMU DJs ready to go than hours in a week - so the "alternate" Streams provide a great and growing place for them. The main problem for me is conflicting simultaneous programs - so I rely on archives.
I can't imagine anyone on the chat board hasn't already put in their pledge, but if you could step out to social media for a bit and plug the station, that would be great!

To me Los Pirañas sound like experienced musical virtuosos who are making this music as a relief from all of the commercial music that they had previously been commissioned to play, and just decided to have fun.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:45am Brian in UK:

  11:46am Dean:

Perhaps the difference between musicals and rock is that the former is a genre defined largely in terms of form and venue, the latter of ethos. It is naive devotion to that ethos that renders some rock childish, I suppose. The execution of the musical form and all the production trappings render it, sometimes, corny. Not sure these are comparable factors.
