Querido Mundo: Ani Cordero’s songs of protest, and love

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

Ani Cordero is releasing a terrific - and timely - new album this month, Querido Mundo. Ani calls the album a “a love letter to a complicated world”: She takes on issues and causes like racism, immigration, feminism and more - aiming, as she puts it, “to inspire political resistance and support for social justice.” It’s also an irresistible blend of her Puerto Rican roots and other world music influences, and rock and roll.

Ani and her band join us on the eve of their album release show Sunday night February 26th at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2.

Thanks, guys. I have a couple hours of laptop power and I can switch to the phone if necessary. I'm warm and dry inside with candles and such. Thanks to global warming, it's a balmy 60 out and not 20 in February. Time to go start pricing backup power options. www.tesla.com...

My friend, Matt, had his Japanese gf detained at LAX coming back from Japan. She had a student visa, but after confiscating her phone, they found out she had a job (at a gallery). Since she wasn't authorized to work in the U.S., she was told she was barred from the U.S. for 5 years. We found some immigration lawyers and hope to mitigate this issue. Let alone the personal pain, she can't continue her grad studies.
Avatar 8:35pm northguineahills:

In two weeks, my Mexi wife has her second immigration interview in two years. She has spent 10s of thousands of dollars in the last two years just to make sure everything is perfect. We were nervous two years ago. Now, we don't know what to expect. Especially as I left NYC to FL looking for better work.
