	7:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Yerknow...I was born almost exactly when the term 'Beatlemania' came into existence - & I have indeed been a Beatlemaniac for longer than I can remember - starting @ least as soon as watching their Sat.A.M. cartoon show when it was actually being broadcast in the 1960s ...& I listen to Beatle-themed podcasts by highly knowledgeable, even fun people ...& still - the Anti-Yoko narrowmlndness & antipathy is thick among them quite often. I dunno - being a Lennon worshipper (why mince words?) - maybe I just gave more credence to his judgement - & - or - my bent is simply I'm more open to the Free & the Avant-Garde...

First extended listens came in 1992 and after, when I became a WFMU listener.

But then I heard the Live in NYC record and "Woman is the Ni***r of the World" and I was like whoa. Then I just allowed myself to hear whatever. I'm not sure if Yoko opened my mind to artists like Meredith Monk, Diamanda Galas (sp?), Joan LaBarbara, etc. or the other way around.

This piece illustrates a point she herself made: all kinds of people like Hendrix were being very Free w/ guitars & things - but somehow she was singled out for her vocal effects. (We get to hear Lennon open up on guitar here, Thx to her.) I always maintain that being a little brother exposed to & weened on Psychedelia from the earliest years was excellent preparation for the Avant-Garde, International Music - many things. I'm quite grateful for that - & it's despite denigration of 'Hippies' or whatever... On the other hand - I never got around to collecting & owning Ono, & in this sense a lot of it is still hearsay to me & I'm still under-exposed & -informed in terms of details...

	♥ 8:57pm melinda: @Scraps I think you are right. Her association with Lennon put her on people's radar, and she was then a popular target/scapegoat for the reasons mentioned.
	8:58pm tim abdellah: First heard her (other than on the White Album) on the Live Peace in Toronto album, which is a pretty ragged set, even without Yoko. The Double Fantasy stuff I found interesting, sort of cool, sort of annoying, at the time. The first thing I totally dug by her was the "Walking on Thin Ice" single, which I still think is fantastic. Got some of her earlier solo stuff over the years - I liked "Fly" for sure. I've quite enjoyed her albums over the last decade - "Between my Head and the Sky" and "Take me to the Land of Hell". I have really appreciated her positive presence on social media over the last decade as well.

	9:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Elsewhere on the album - Ornette & Charlie Haden! I've read Yoko said Ringo was way kewl w/ it all, right there. Yeah seriously - 1970 !
	9:33pm Dean: From Variety magazine, sans attribution, a June 4, 1969, review of Life with the Lions: Yoko Ono, the Japanese wife of John Lennon, is showcased in a long vocal performance on the first side of this disk in a number titled "Cambridge 1969." It sounds very oriental and is unmistakably monotonous. It's not clear what she is wailing about since her utterance consists of one unbroken syllable running in various octaves and rhythms for over 25 minutes. On the second side, Miss [sic!] Ono is featured on a more tender, free-form ballad, "No Bed for Beatle John," which is also not destined for the charts. There is also a rhythmic piece, "Baby's Heartbeat," which could be clinically authentic. One number is without sound, which may be the most listenable thing in the set, even if it reminds of John Cage.

I dunno - being a Lennon worshipper (why mince words?) - maybe I just gave more credence to his judgement - & - or - my bent is simply I'm more open to the Free & the Avant-Garde...

First extended listens came in 1992 and after, when I became a WFMU listener.

But then I heard the Live in NYC record and "Woman is the Ni***r of the World" and I was like whoa. Then I just allowed myself to hear whatever. I'm not sure if Yoko opened my mind to artists like Meredith Monk, Diamanda Galas (sp?), Joan LaBarbara, etc. or the other way around.

This piece illustrates a point she herself made: all kinds of people like Hendrix were being very Free w/ guitars & things - but somehow she was singled out for her vocal effects. (We get to hear Lennon open up on guitar here, Thx to her.) I always maintain that being a little brother exposed to & weened on Psychedelia from the earliest years was excellent preparation for the Avant-Garde, International Music - many things. I'm quite grateful for that - & it's despite denigration of 'Hippies' or whatever... On the other hand - I never got around to collecting & owning Ono, & in this sense a lot of it is still hearsay to me & I'm still under-exposed & -informed in terms of details...

	8:58pm tim abdellah: First heard her (other than on the White Album) on the Live Peace in Toronto album, which is a pretty ragged set, even without Yoko. The Double Fantasy stuff I found interesting, sort of cool, sort of annoying, at the time. The first thing I totally dug by her was the "Walking on Thin Ice" single, which I still think is fantastic. Got some of her earlier solo stuff over the years - I liked "Fly" for sure. I've quite enjoyed her albums over the last decade - "Between my Head and the Sky" and "Take me to the Land of Hell". I have really appreciated her positive presence on social media over the last decade as well.

	9:33pm Dean: From Variety magazine, sans attribution, a June 4, 1969, review of Life with the Lions: Yoko Ono, the Japanese wife of John Lennon, is showcased in a long vocal performance on the first side of this disk in a number titled "Cambridge 1969." It sounds very oriental and is unmistakably monotonous. It's not clear what she is wailing about since her utterance consists of one unbroken syllable running in various octaves and rhythms for over 25 minutes. On the second side, Miss [sic!] Ono is featured on a more tender, free-form ballad, "No Bed for Beatle John," which is also not destined for the charts. There is also a rhythmic piece, "Baby's Heartbeat," which could be clinically authentic. One number is without sound, which may be the most listenable thing in the set, even if it reminds of John Cage.
