Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:09am listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Doug Schulkind:

Hi Marie! Thanks for coming!

@Uncle Michael
You are wrong about New Orleans. Take it from the husband of a daughter of a mother from New Or-le-ans.
It is absolutely pronounced with four syllables. Unless one pronounces if N'awlins. There is a class distinction here. Upper-four syllables; lower-2 syllables.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:15am listener james from westwood:

@Carmichael: It's baked into the concept of a border.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Lane Gray:

Brian, one could say it's reverberation from WWI anyway. The allies really screwed the pooch when they redrew the map...
Avatar 11:16am Carmichael:

Don't think it was a screwup, Brian. The League of Nations was quite detailed in its desires. They landlocked Iraq intentionally. Al Stewart's song League of Notions, while whimsical, does have a good historical base to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Doug Schulkind:

I emulate my dear mother-in-law. She was no high-class woman, but she pronounced New Orleans with four syllables. Just whatever you do, do not pronounce it New Orleens. It was only pronounced that way in song for the easy rhyming opportunities. No one in New Orleans pronounces it New Orleens.
Avatar 11:18am Lewis:

and the answer (according to the interweb) is 54... but ya gotta put a bit of wiggle on that as things in the Horn can be a bit fluid I suppose
