Hello Irwin--is it a ghost town around Jersey City this week?

Ah, I don't know le petit poucet but I'll lookitup when I stop working on a book after Friday--only have about 430 pieces of art to prep for printing to get it done...

Irwin,

Last week, by any chance, did you play any music by Carrie Fisher or by George Michael?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
Irwin:

I relinquished the curse to other staffers. Told them to use it responsibly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Michael 98145:

great set!

So it seems to me People Like Us played irresponsibly George Michael's last week (4 days before his death).

Bed music in that break by Raymond Scott.

Jack:

I used to be able to play the first few notes of this Mahavishnu song; impressed a lot people back in the stoned age.
  3:54pm
Woo:

I saw Mott the Hoople open for Mahavishnu once. I miss those odd record company pairings. Someone threw a bottle at Ian Hunter who then jumped off the stage and kicked some ass.

nickrhombi:

- breakfast with candlemass.. lunch with mahavishnu.... where else can this happen, i ask you?!
  3:56pm

Woo: I saw Taj Mahal with the Pointer Sisters singing backup as an opening act for Mahavishnu. So, I know whatcha mean...

Great Show Thank You
  3:58pm
nickrhombi:

- that song yoused to freak me out wen i was a kid!~ that lurchey menacing intro...
  4:05pm
Jack:

I saw Mahvishnu at C.W. Post college in 197(mumble) can't remember - there's bootlegs of it out there - Marc Almond opened and they were good too. My friend got up to the stage and took great photos of Billy Cobham's sweat flying. And they were REALLY LOUD.
  4:10pm
Kleighbells:

Wow! Duane plays Alphonse Mouzon/Jaco and Irwin plays Mahavishnu. Fusion heaven!
  4:11pm
Brendan:

Speaking of odd pairings and bottles. John Cougar ( pre -Menstrualcramp ) opened for the Who in AZ. He was knocked unconcho by a bottle , carried off and came back wearing a hard hat and sang Hurt So Good. He profanely challenged the hurlers to try it again. They obliged.

Lyle:

The Kirkbys. That brings back some memories. I believe it was the summer of 1968. I was playing french horn with The Electric Flag. We were playing a gig somewhere in Nebraska ... Lincoln maybe? A state fair gig. Anyway, the Kirkbys opened and they had obviously been into the special Kool-Aid. The lead singer made some allusion to being able to fly and promptly launched himself off of a twenty-foot tower of speakers. Mind you, this was in the pre-stage diving days, so no one caught him when he fell. The leap occurred during a quiet passage in the music, so we all heard the resounding thud as he belly-flopped onto the hard-packed dirt in front of the stage. As I recall, the crowd roared and the band kicked back in. Everyone thought it was part of the act, so much so that he repeated the feat for a few more dates on the tour before he was replaced by a pre-Elvin Bishop, Mickey Thomas. Mickey was asked to duplicate the popular stage dive, but refused. He was promptly fired and was replaced by a very briefly by the aging actor Karl Malden, of all people! Suffice it to say, this didn't last long. Malden does play bongoes on "It's a Crime". He is unfortunately buried in the mix.
  4:30pm
Lyle:

Please excuse the typo. My hands are so stiff these days, especially in the cooler months. I was recently asked to join a reconfigured version of Rare Earth, but had to decline due to stiffness.

Oh Dear Lord. Embarrassing. I may not post again for some time. Happy New Year all.

Lyle:

Thank you, Courtney. You're very kind. I get excited when Irwin plays songs that trigger musical memories. He is good at that. He's also a fine drummer who sometimes reminds me of Keith Knudson in some ways. Did you know that Keith Knudson played with Lee Michaels before joining the Doobie Bros? I just read that on my computer. Love the little facts that make music so interesting.

from a review on amazon: "With the exception of Track 1, where latin percussionist Osvaldo Martinez plays something resembling maracas as if they were jumping beans in a paper bag, this is a great CD. Fortunately, he's more restrained on the other tracks, so don't let Track 1 deter you from enjoying this music."
