Yeah, and Dempster later did another one on New Albion with a group of trombone players. It's "Underground Overlays From The Cistern Chapel."

Tonight's quasi-unrelated images are fabric works by Louise Bourgeois

@Dean: have that one saved for later (i.e., to buy later)

And of course the Allman Bros.'s first post-Duane album was Brethren & Cistern.

This could be the score for a nonexistent opera based on "Le Grand Meaulnes".

Is anyone aware of her work being used by a choreographer? It seems so perfect for that.
Avatar 9:31pm
Jesse K:

yeah actually that's a great idea. I'm not but I'm sure someone would have done something like that

Thanks for the second helping of Pailine Oliveros awesomeness. Definitely bookmarking this archive!

Looks like there was a site-specific dance collaboration here: www.dramonline.org...

Dean:

Miya Masaoka had that early-ish performance in SF on Market St. involving dancing strippers. But as for Oliveros, while her music does seem suited to dance, it has been explicitly directed toward "listening." It is a kind of "pure music," like some of the Beethoven string quartets.

Thanks melinda! What a great find!

geezerette:

Dean, it did occur to me that she might have felt dance would be a distraction, but this "Forenoon.." piece is so visual that it's tempting to imagine Mark Morris or Baryshnikov working with it.

Agreed, geezerette. I just happen to like the idea of pure music.
