Hi geezerette & P-90! Tonight, all singles 'cause it's Singles Going Steady Week here at WFMU. It's a fun diversion to keep us remembering our roots. And we're hoping it'll spur some of you to pledge your support to WFMU's Silent Fundraiser. Click on the dog & cow at the top of the page to help us out.

Linda, I still have the original picture sleeve 45 that I bought back in the day. You can tell by the scratchiness of the playback. Always loved Space Oddity-- one of the most original-sounding tunes of its time.

Thank You Mr. Bowie for visiting our insane planet.
Originality...His Producer Tony Visconti thot it too obvious a cop on the Apollo project - derivative of Lennon & stuff! So Gus Dudgeon did it - & of course Visconti flipped...
...Was not quite five when we landed on the Moon. Such awe & optimism - leaving the planet! Sold on Spacey stuff for life...Soon enuff, they're playing golf up there...& only now talk of maybe going to Mars - about 1,000 times further than the Moon...
Many hold that only chauvinism keeps Joni from being recognized as often as the Dylans & such as a Greatest Writer...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
coelacanth:

RR @10:06 i agree with those that contend that about Joni. if we're just talking about lyrics, she may not be on Dylan's level (pre-"desire" dylan, that is), but certainly up there with Cohen and Lennon and Buckley -etc.
Avatar 10:32pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nobody is on Bob's level...@ his best. Tho' Cohen is close - more consistent if far far less prolific. An interesting contrast. But even he felt Dylan's heavy influence. Hard to imagine a world w/out say 'Both Sides Now'...
