Hey Duane! I heard of Kashif's unfortunate passing. I was wondering if we'd hear some of his stuff today.

He was a year older than I am.

didn't that teacher and his wife adopt him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm

Played lots of Kashif in R&B bands back in the '80s. Fun stuff for a keyboard player.

What was the dynamic where people would willingly take on foster children and then turn around and treat them so horribly? Were the foster parents getting cash from the state or something?
Avatar 12:29pm

oh man I forgot that Kashif did stuff with Dr. York!
Avatar 12:31pm

The Duane Train running on the EXPRESS track! Cheers, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm

@steveo: yeah, states (or, at least NJ/NY that i know of) give foster families a sizeable amount of money ostensibly to care for the children in their care.

This is great, I didn't really know about Kashif but certainly heard his music.
Avatar 12:35pm
PKNY:

@steveo - Out of the realm of the Duane Train wheelhouse, John Joseph of the Cro-mags wrote extensively about his experiences in the NY foster system in the 70s, lots of horror stories of being mistreated by folks collecting money as foster parents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
steveo:

I'll check it @PKNY, thanks. And thanks, of course, to Duane for this show celebrating Kashif.

Kashif did end up with wonderful foster parents, who unofficially adopted him but what an awful road he had until then.

hello there
Avatar 12:58pm

Hennepin County, for many reasons, has chased off many prospective foster parents, including my husband and myself.
Avatar 12:59pm

I've heard their policies are a lot better now, but it's kind of too late for us. We'll have to take a mentoring route, we're too set in our ways.

Howdy all. Duane...Twas an amazin train that pulled into Prospect Park on 9/17. Thanks for all!
Avatar 2:20pm
Cecile:

Duane, Kashif wrote so nicely about love. But the Unsung tiptoed around his personal life. Was he a private person, married to his sound board, or was there some kind of weird Troy McClure things going on? Not that there's anything wrong with that. As long as he's happy.

Did the government broadcast a subliminal message really fast that only our unconscious mind understood? And after lying dormant for a while, years from now we'll find ourselves doing something bizarre that they want us to do and we won't know why or even remember that today ever happened?
