All I can think of now is Wojo from Barney Miller.

Ps. I'm over here by the bathroom, @ljfw. You can talk Manson murders with me.
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:57am

@Jeff: Yes!! Wojo FTMFW. I love how he says at one point to a puzzled person who's trying to pronounce it, "It sounds just like it looks."
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:01am
listener james from westwood:

I do think one of my missed opportunities, having spent my full adult life in the burbs, is not having lived in a major metropolis that affords one access to all-night rambling parties, from which one can simply take a cab or public transit home after hours spent gabbing in the kitchen or whatnot and getting slowly more loopy. Having to drive to all social occasions does blow sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am
Jeff Golick:

I would agree, @ljfw. Not that I've been to that very many parties. I now think of it in terms of my kids, a teen and tween. Glad that they will not be barreling home in a car through the 'burbs to beat curfew, as was my lot.

How did we all survive?
Avatar 10:05am

listener james from westwood:

Barney Miller was a staple rerun watch in my late grammar and middle school years. Understood about half of what they were talking about in my early years but was riveted. I also adored the set; it felt so lived in, like the original Odd Couple set. And that theme! So much with so little!
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:19am
listener james from westwood:

(Was also an Odd Couple addict thru that time. Shit, I think WPIX out of NYC played 'em both.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, that set. So borderline ugly. So orangey-yellow. Did they occasionally shoot outside? Or never...?
Avatar 10:21am
glenn:

it was an homage to nicotine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am
Jeff Golick:

Ha.

So I guess no one watches The Brady Bunch or Gilligan's Island anymore?
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:30am
listener james from westwood:

There were occasional departures from the set (Barney's apartment; I think Chano got in a shootout in a stairwell) but they eventually dwindled to nil (1 set = cheaper of course).
Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:30am

It's odd I haven't vacationed more up the Hudson Valley. So many gorgeous options. I tagged a sweet AirBnB a while back right near the river, but for some reason AirBnB now refuses my password and all attempts to reset it.

@Andrew Waterloo: belated warm greetings! Did that show hold up at all?

Dean:

I'm going to write a book about encounters with the spouses off Rova. Just Friday as I left campus I crossed paths with Lyn Hejinian. She's married to Larry Ochs (and vice versa). Once at a record store in town I purchased a solo record by Bruce Ackley. The clerk who rang me out looked at his co-clerk and said, "Look. He's buying your husband's record." Ackl;ey wasn't in the store, but Jon Raskin was.

Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 10:53am

I think I bought my copy of Rova's Ascension CD (the first one from '95) at DMG around 15 years ago. It's still sealed. I need to remedy that situation. Electric Ascension from '03, however, is open and has been played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am

No kidding, @Jeff G.! Kinda striking, the comments from '99, posted in a pre-9/11 world, when "the world is screaming to the top of itself" meant something different, if it means anything at all.

IMHO you should *never* trust no-name Chinese electronics. It'll probably turn into a brick soon. Sony makes some decent MP3 "Walkman" players (though some recent reviews say they've gone downhill). Or try Sansa.

Several iPods from working a thrift store. The small ones would shuffle podcasts - but the batteries & such would crap out. So - buy a battery bar - but they crapped out anyhow...The larger ones hold a charge & much more GBs - but I only need what I can hear in day, really...& they don't shuffle podcasts (which gives me like my own station, kindof)...Do iPhones shuffle podcasts? Maybe if I make a Playlist...
