Death is a Mullimann? What does that mean?

accd'g to Babylon free online translator, ''mullimann'' means ''waste iman.'' Helpful, jah?

DIGGING.
  12:36pm
Polyus:

Ah, that makes sense then. I couldn't find a translation.
  12:36pm
Listener142985:

'Mullimann' could be an allusion to this line of poetry: "der Tod ist ein Meister aus Deutschland" ("Death is a master from Germany)." Greater Teutonic minds will have to supply actual meaning.
  12:40pm
Polyus:

Hmm, I wonder if that's what Einstruzende Neubauten were also referencing with Der Todt ist ein Dandy?

Hi, Liz and gang. Happily, still early for today's guest. What's this I hear about an annual fund-raiser for the Free Music Archive?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm

"Death is a garbageman" sounds very German, sounds like something Werner Herzog would say. Hi Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm

Got a haircut last night and it's a wee bit on the short side... which means there's a lot swirling on my head like the bands of a tropical depression.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm

Well, at least it's not a hurricane...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, mariano. How's it going? It's good to have a fresh haircut right before a heat wave, anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm

I've got Kojak head. My mom's Vietnamese manicurist, when she saw a picture of me, told my mom "Your son combs his hair like Buddha!"

I've always loved the girl punk hairdo that's a buzz cut with one long lock over the face, especially dyed blue-black. A hurricane for hair, though: that could work, like a storm goddess or something along those lines.

Yeah, well, I've got the Buddha waistline to go with it!

They're really good, wow! Always amazed at the sound quality of FMU live sets, hats off to Mario Santana! It's interesting too, the Middle Eastern influence in surf rock (I believe Mirblouk is an Iranian name): Dick Dale is Lebanese, and "Misirlou" is basically an old Lebanese song with a rock beat. Can definitely hear it in the surfier-sounding guitar work here.

Davis, CA in the house - nice! Great show through n through, Liz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Liz Berg:

Good ear, Mariano! Kaz is indeed Iranian-American. "Misirlou" is a funny song that a lot of middle eastern countries have claimed as their own (my Armenian peeps being no exception):
en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
mariano:

Oh wow, didn't know about the Armenian connection, but it doesn't surprise me, with the Armenian population of a lot of ME countries -- I appreciate the education! The version I've heard, linked from an article on Dick Dale from a few years back, is this one (not to interrupt Kaz or you of course, please save the link!): www.youtube.com..., but it looks like there are even Greek versions -- might be a contentious thing, like Turkish coffee vs Greek coffee!

I am very excited to check them out in person! I have been enjoying what I've been hearing on KDVS. A new Sacto freeform station is brewing, too, KUTZ FM. I met a girl wearing a WFMU shirt at a KUTZ fund raiser event. That made me happy.

@mariano: the coffee thing is easily worked out - the assigned nationality for a particular cup of the exact same coffee depends on whether the exact same little brewing vessel was called an ibrik, a briki, a džezva, a ѓезве, or a jazva while the coffee was being made.

@Jeff: I knew ibrik, but didn't know any of the variants, thanks! I'm guessing the last three are Slavic but of Turkish origin? Or is the last one Turkish? Sorry, I really geek out on this sort of thing...
