Good morning e12, Howard F, and all of you wayfarers...
Howard F: the two tracks on side B are in this vein, side A is more country blues guitar

Howard F:

Thanks Jeffrey, will definitely seek this one out!

The Jack Rose is a reissue of a 2006 release.

Good morning all!

Jeffrey Davison:

I come here on Saturdays with a list of things to play (far too many) plus CDs, records, then grab new stuff from the library, and have no idea what I'm going to play or when. Always such a pleasure sharing these musical peregrinations with you all.

Hello Jeffrey and easy risers.

Ronnie Drew late of the Dubliners had one of the most powerful voices without a microphone I have ever heard.

Jolie Holland does a nice version of The Grey Funnel Line

This melody reminds me of Jack Tarr the Sailor.

truth: i had gotten to a point at which i just did not care about ballads and folklore, all the tunes related to them. i brushed it all off to sentimentality. each time i listen to this show i'm reminded how important folklore is as well as its heritage and influence on modern culture. i wonder if there is actually a course of study to see how much of these old tunes have permeated our modern music.

and brian in uk, this idea came to me from your remark about Jack Tar, not to mention my fixation on the childe ballads
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am
Brian in UK:

annie watch out for the Butchers Boy.

I am fascinated by the fact that I can enjoy folk songs from other countries in languages that I do not understand yet they still move me. The skill of the singer somehow transends the language barrier.
