Very fitting to hear Haino this morning because I woke up to see this photo of him and hear that he did the soundtrack to Marc Jacobs runway event: postimg.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Marcel M:

"Even going against the customary musical soundtrack, Jacobs had a single bell chimed repeatedly. He was inspired by Keiji Haino, the Japanese musician whose work explores the "haunted spaces between the notes," as the show notes said."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am
Marcel M:

Oh inspired by him not done by him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am
Marcel M:

Well this source said Haino did it: "He set his show to silence, broken only by the occasional echoing chime, a track created by the Japanese rock star Keiji Haino, who focuses on what Mr. Jacobs’s crib sheet characterized as the “haunted space between the notes.”"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am

Who I really, really love is Chado Ralph Rucci. Rucci's deal is that everthing is bespoke, handmade, and a wearable piece of art. If I won the powerball, I would commission a jacket right away.

Comme is great! I also love the Belgians - Martin Margiela, Anne DeMullemeester, Dries van Noten.

And I also love Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors because they make pretty big girl clothes.

I fully endorse this episode and the premise behind it. Even though I missed most of it and will have to dig it later in the day. ThankS CHRIS!

Waddya mean?! It's on Meet the...! All that's missing from that album is an instrumental interlude of "76 Trombones"!

damn... i don't always appreciate Gaylord's pop sensibilities, but we see each-other regarding the beatles.

The Beach Boys are too saccharine and inorganic for my ears. And I love cilantro.

Speaking of songs which break your brain in a way which ends up having a lasting effect: that's what happened the first time I heard The Shaggs on the radio (probably in 1979).

I initially HATED them - the song (My Pal Foot Foot, I think) seemed wrong in every possible way, and even kind of threateningly, corrosively wrong - but I couldn't stop thinking about the song, and what it was about it that annoyed me so.

I couldn't stop thinking about it.

And eventually I embraced it, and the power of how its "off" timing resonated where it collided with my expectations.

"Hey Jude" cover by Wilson Pickett is of the charts, but, I think it did as well or better on the charts as the original.

And as for those Beach Boys - eww. Nearly everything they did which was super-popular just seems retch-inducingly insipid to me. And often casually sexist.

Great show, thanks! I always hated "Hey Jude." (Was a big Beatles fan as a kid, then hated them for a while, then started appreciating them again)

Jeff what melted my Shaggs brain was realizing all that guitar was double tracked
