“YOU WON’T FIND THESE ANYWHERE ELSE!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Dan Bodah:

I keep imagining Miles honing his homebrewed khoomei over a Victrola in a mining shack, wearing down a Mongolian 78 brought back by some roughneck from adventures in Asia -- or brought over by Chinese workers on the railway...
  7:09pm
JakeGould:

Based on the cover the title should be, “Simply… Cameroon.”

Australia's Queen of yodeling!!

Totally pedantic of me, but Hoxha is pronounced Hoja

Jeff:

Of course, since my mind is in a musical mode this evening, I heard "Prague Spring" as "Prog Spring".

Tony Coulter might do a special show about the Prog Spring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Dan Bodah:

@mariano, thanks! I am happy to know how to say it correctly.

I so wish those Scarfolk records were real.

@Rich, yeh, me too! That site is so great. @penelope -- how's Telemachus?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Dan Bodah:

So what's the weirdest vocal you all can think of in a popular or mainstream song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
mariano:

I'd love to hear Shooby Taylor go up against this guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm
Dan Bodah:

@mariano, ah, thanks for the reminder about Shooby, I gotta get back to him!
  7:39pm
penelope:

I think the lotus eaters may have gotten him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Dan Bodah:

I'm sure he's been chomping on those lotuses like there will never be a tomorrow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
mariano:

Always happy to promote Shooby! @Rich -- never heard of Scarfolk before, thanks for that, on the site now!

I think the the traditional pre-Columbian version had more trombones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm
Dan Bodah:

If you told me when I started DJing at WFMU 16 years ago that I'd be happily playing Conway Twitty on the airwaves, I would have told you NEVER. Who knew he was so good?
  7:50pm
bodahcar:

That's a fearsome sound
Avatar 7:50pm
Linda Lee:

still mulling over the weirdest-mainstream-vocal query, Dan ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm
Dan Bodah:

@bodahcar, Mongolian heavy metal
  7:53pm
bodahcar:

yup
Avatar 7:53pm
Linda Lee:

it's amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Dan Bodah:

There seems to be somewhat of a movement of this kind of music happening...
Avatar 7:53pm
j-biz:

it may not be weirdest, but for mainstream points, i'd be remiss not to mention the grunt heard 'round the world - Down with the Sickness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
mariano:

Still mulling the vocal query too... "Ocean Man" by Ween maybe? I think it was their only mainstream hit, used in some commercial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
Dan Bodah:

Oh, I don't really know Ween...I should check them out? @j-biz, not sure I know what you're referring to...
Avatar 7:56pm
Linda Lee:

caught here between Screamin Jay Hawkins' 'I Put A Spell On You' & DEVO's 'Satisfaction'. .. weirdish mainstream.
Avatar 7:57pm
j-biz:

Disturbed - Down with the Sickness (ooo wa ah ah ah!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Ike:

Mmmmmmmmmm jjjjjjjjjjjjj gggggggg bbbbbbbbb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
mariano:

Oh yeah, DEVO, of course! @Dan: yeah, Ween's discography is a nice rabbit hole to disappear down, real variety of sound. You won't believe you're listening to the same band from song to song in a lot of cases.
Avatar 7:59pm
Linda Lee:

it's 'mainstream' because it's the opposite of weird, no? :-)
