am overwhelmed with complex emotions..."mental images". and this marvelous recording. Have seen this film projected a few times and even on video it is always brilliant. Moving.

Thanks, Rich. I will listen to this in archive numerous times. Even though I have the Criterion Collection vid of La Jetee, this experience is great, had not even thought of this possibility...the film is so visually awesome. I am so grateful. Now I stop writing. And listen.

the mark of a really good soundtrack is when you don't need the visual.

genius transition. After the astounding ending to the breadth of La Jette. - the perfect suspenseful anti war tragedy. A sci fi borderline melodrama and more beautiful for it. Kinda obsessed
Perfect May 14,2016, very early morning

ooooOOOOOOoh. I want to go in an isolation tank. It seems so freeing. I feel like it'd reset my short attention span brain.

Man, Crash is amazing. I really do love that film.

i like the film better than the novel. the first chapter of the novel is great but it bogs down for me after that. the first chapter is like one of ballard's great short stories but i always expect more of his novels and they don't quite hit me the same way as the stories. i think its the same kind of disappointment i would get if there were borges novels. i liked high rise though; should make for an interesting film.
Avatar 2:30am
Fox (Rā-chul):

I've only read some of his short stories. I should give his novels a go, I suppose.

I'm always happy when the Carcass finds its way to brass bands.

Scraps deSelby:

I like High Rise, and I like Crash -- more than the movie -- and I like The Drowned World; when I think of them, I like lots of Ballard's novels, but it's true that the short stories are masterful. "Billienium", "End Game", "The Terminal Beach": admirable.

Fox (Rā-chul):

Yay! Here's the Flyer: bit.ly...

thanks all for listening. have a good week.

Rob W:

I had a personal Ballard phase but it was like two decades ago! Curious to see High Rise though - I really liked that one. It helped that when I read it I had an image in my head of the social breakdown happening at my parents' high rise in Fort Lee - gave it a little extra edge... whereas of course seeing the movie takes away that potential for magical thinking...

And Empire of the Sun is incredible, though it's maybe not a novel. Kinda.
