Toy pianos, I meant. Then I grew up & my parents made me take lessons on a "real" piano, but I wasn't good or motivated, and quit as soon as they let me, which was years. They say you'll regret quitting, but I never did. I just left music to those who had the aptitude for producing, rather than just listening to, it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

the thing with the k-tel comps is that they all had about a dozen songs per side when a regular l.p. had 5 or 6. how'd they do that? and is that why they sounded like crap?

Yeah - it's...if I thot hearing 'Seasons in the Sun' too much was bad - I had no idea what the Pop40 would become I guess is my point - but the Music Industry & everything else are so different 40 years later - there's no point to this Rabbit hole....
Avatar 6:28pm
deanland:

K-Tel preceded Casey Kasem and the record company loss leader compilations. It also served as party music back when the record changer was the in thing. No platters dropping, minimal time space between songs. And all hit music. Tacky though it seemed, it was in fact superb programming and packaging.

  Swag For Life Member 6:32pm

@dale - I think they compress the heck out of the songs (not much low or high frequency) so the grooves on the record can be a lot narrower and they can fit more songs per side. Something like that anyway.
