I think the sun outside my window is encouraging enjoyment. I have missed it these last months.

annie:

here in the smoky mountains, we've been experiencing a drought, very odd for a temperate rainforest. there was an alleged arson here, which has burned 6 miles of the Appalachian trail and much acreage of our woods. pretty scary. and spring is progressing in a slow fashion... albeit a little early. climate change: subtle yet loud.
Avatar 6:49am
ausmanx:

nothing subtle about it in the Pacific, Annie... just back from Hanoi and Manila... evening, all...
Avatar 6:50am
annie:

hey aus, i was just thinking about you...
Avatar 6:52am
ausmanx:

in the context of arsonists? i thought i'd got away with it!
Avatar 6:57am
annie:

it's ironic, though, we take our plentiful water here for granted; the lush greeen is slow to come this year, the French Broad River running high, and we water our gardens which are usually watered by almost-daily afternoon showers.. very different pattern this spring. yeah, re: that "arson", it was third-hand gossip referring to someone who had apparently bragged that they would set fire to the mountain-side. this has not been proven true or false yet.. aus, you're off the hook
Avatar 6:58am
davej:

Just looked up the Smoky Mountains. What a wonderful place to live annie.
Avatar 7:00am

it's heavenly... and nestled against the blue ridge, our city is set atop a mountain of quartz.. cosmic!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am
Sem Chumbo:

Ausmanx, good to see you here. How's the Vietnamese economic miracle looking?
Avatar 7:02am
ausmanx:

got to Blue Ridge a couple of years ago, midwinter, covered in ice and snow, pretty spectacular... then i went to Gettysburg!
Avatar 7:06am
annie:

did you visit asheville? it's where i am. there are parts of the hillsides that never see the light of the sun, and yet literally covered with rhododendron full of spring bloom. were you able to visit the grotto near gettysburg, aus? and able to view the huge madonna on the mountainside? she is quite a sight to see. and standing at her feet even more jaw-dropping
Avatar 7:08am
ausmanx:

everything's rushed in tourist mode... we need to look you up next time, annie!
Avatar 7:08am
annie:

please do aus...

A frequently repeated prediction, attributed to Maharaj Ji, was that the Astrodome would levitate.[3][53] Davis and others made often-reported predictions, repeated in half-jest, that extraterrestrials would attend the festival.[44][52][54] Bal Bhagwan Ji is said to have predicted the festival would be preceded by earthquakes in New York and Denver, along with a dive in the stock markets.[3][55] Sociologist Downton wrote that there were runaway expectations about attendance.[24] Public predictions of attendance grew larger: from 100,000 to 144,000 (the number foretold in the Book of Revelation for the Second Coming),[52] to 200,000 and even 400,000.
  7:36am

Astrodome is a word I've not heard in ages, I need to revisit this whole event.

I went to Moogfest in Asheville in 2011. Brian Eno lecture followed by Terry Riley playing "A Rainbow In Curved Air."
Avatar 8:50am
annie:

yes, moog moved to durham this year, i think.. asheville has a knack for killing festivals.
  8:50am
Kat in Chicago:

I was thinking of the wrong kind of mushrooms
  8:53am
Cliff:

Hard to imagine Vincent Price doing the hallucinogenic kind. Though maybe Cary Grant talked him into doing LSD with him, who knows.
  8:53am
melinda:

Mention of Moogfest on another comment board last year was what got me looking up Asheville but I think it moved to Durham. I discovered an Eco-housing compound type of place in the process though, along with other things.
  8:55am
Kat in Chicago:

Moogfest did move to Durham, and friends are playing it, but i can't afford to go :( I was born in Raleigh btw, lived around NC till sixth grade.
Avatar 8:57am
annie:

yes, there's an eco-village out near black mountain, i've never been, myself.. maybe some time. it's sad about moog.. they got annoyed at the COA last year and decided to move it. and we have the john campbell folk school in western carolina, too.
  9:01am
Kat in Chicago:

Hearing the last shred of JM in AM after Micah's show is so weird
  9:01am
