	4:44am Lyle: Bees? Well. I remember one time not so long ago. I had been retired for several years already, but I got a call from John Gary. He was ready to trot himself out there one more time and he wondered if I wouldn't mind playing 4th 'bone in his band. 4th 'bone for John "Yellow Bird" Gary? Sure! Anyway, as I recall we were somewhere on the outskirts of Boone, Iowa. This must have been around 1980. We were supposed to play a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, but we'd been up all night carousing on the bus. Nothing too heavy. Playing cards, drinking whiskey, smoking cigarettes. Just the guys, you know? Shooting the bull. Sharing some laughs. So we're hungover and we're trying to find the gig. To his credit, John is bound and determined not to cancel. He refused to let the Kiwanis Club down. I loved him for that. I remember that a big bee cloud flew onstage during Guantanamera and John got three or four stings. The crowd loved it! After that we kept it in the act for a while. John would act like he was getting stung and he would feign swinging his arms at a cloud of imaginary bees It was kind of funny, but after a few more gigs, the bit got stale. John wanted to keep doing it. I don't knew who had the guts to tell him no one was laughing anymore, bit somebody must have. You lived and learned in those days. You tried things out. Experimented a little. It was all so new.
