Avatar 11:45am annie:

what sadist stacked those cans too high on that back shelf; in a pyramid no less.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Parq:

Present. Me and the little man who lives in my stomach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi everyone!
Avatar 11:58am Michael:

Hi all and a tip o' the fedora to our host.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Goyim in the AM:

'sup, fans o' nothin'?
Avatar 11:58am annie:

wendy! i was thinking about you this morning as i was mourning the decline of the import of Manouri cheese
Avatar 12:00pm βrian:

Trickled in, as predicted. Good afternoon.
Avatar 12:00pm bobdoesthings:

hey charlie, and all you lazy doing nothinge-ers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Uncle Michael:

All somthing shoved off my desk and onto the floor. making room for nothing...
Avatar 12:01pm thatpatsmith:

Love the way Fred said baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Uncle Michael:

yes, um is now here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Charlie:

hi annie, Parq, Wendy, Michael, goyim in the am, ßrian, bobdoesthings, Uncle Michael, thatpat!
Avatar 12:03pm βrian:

The discreet squawk of brass. Love that.
  12:04pm testingwithfire:

good afternoon Charlie and fellow flaneurs!
Avatar 12:06pm annie:

and, as required for this national holiday, i AM drinking wine.
Avatar 12:06pm Snortley:

How could I have known that murder could sometimes smell like honeysuckle?
Avatar 12:06pm βrian:

Nous sommes tous le flâneurs.
  12:06pm testingwithfire:

there's been a Manouri import decline? there is a really bad pun in there ripe for the picking. I love Manouri cheese though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Charlie:

hello testingwithfire and snortley -- classic line from the film there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Uncle Michael:

Dymaxion=8.3025
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Wendy del Formaggio:

The more I hear from Dymaxion, the more I like them. And I haven't heard much, so maybe it's time to fix that.
Avatar 12:09pm βrian:

@annie: Ah, good point. I'm going to grab a bottle of Bandol, myself. Been waiting for the proper excuse.
Avatar 12:11pm glenn:

the best cheese i've had lately, by far. www.cows.ca...
Avatar 12:11pm annie:

re: manouri cheese, it's been off the export list for almost a year and a half.. i had to buy the saltier Myzyrtha(sp).
Avatar 12:11pm bobdoesthings:

this "Gelbart" is all pieced together sampled stuff, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Charlie:

@annie -- re cans stacked high -- in the film, in this scene, a woman comes by, asks Fred to take down something from a shelf, remarks, "Why do they always put the things I want where I can't reach them?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Charlie:

and hi also to glenn
Avatar 12:13pm annie:

looks good, glenn..... charlie, i must have missed that line 10 times, then.. ok, on to the 11th viewing. you see, we short people notice these things
Avatar 12:14pm glenn:

i'm busy eating oatmeal. and being sick.
Avatar 12:14pm bobdoesthings:

I think I need all the Ethiopiques volumes... how many are there 30?
Avatar 12:15pm annie:

that goes very nicely with a dry white wine glenn
Avatar 12:15pm βrian:

Manouri sounds dee-licious. I went to the tasting of the American Cheese Society here a few years back. I got lost among the fetas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Parq:

So glad to hear this great, great Beatles track.
Avatar 12:16pm bobdoesthings:

OH MAN. I use to dance around to this beatles song (dont bother me) when I was a kid.. secretely using my parents record player which I wasnt suppose to.. <3
Avatar 12:17pm glenn:

except i don't drink.
Avatar 12:17pm Mayuko:

Hello, Charlie and all!
  12:17pm testingwithfire:

sometimes Cobain's Beatles roots are really obvious. love this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Charlie:

Hi Mayuko!
Avatar 12:20pm βrian:

It's National Drink Wine Doris Day!
Avatar 12:21pm bobdoesthings:

Riz Ortolani - did the main theme to the lovely film - Cannibal Holocaust
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm coelacanth:

hi Charlie and nothlings

perhaps there's a reason i've heard that song,"perhaps, perhaps, perhaps" twice on wfmu in 2 days, by 2 different artists?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm coelacanth:

well,there you have it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Charlie:

perhaps perhaps perhaps...
  12:28pm βrian:

Have you been working on a DJ premium, Charlie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm coelacanth:

(it's a coincidence for me because i rarely get to hear this show "live", and even more rarely Amanda's.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Charlie:

ßrian -- yes, natch
Avatar 12:30pm bobdoesthings:

<3 VASHTI.. I need this record now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm coelacanth:

fox @2:16 were you in my house, when i was little...being me?
Avatar 12:33pm bobdoesthings:

fish, maybe we're the same person!? or souls that got divided in the bardo between lives..?! i dunno.
  12:33pm jan:

Your show is brightening my day!
Avatar 12:34pm glenn:

oh, the other fox.
Avatar 12:35pm Lewis:

Great clips from the film...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm coelacanth:

ah-ha...and then there's (eyepatch)fox.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm coelacanth:

you guys (and gals) get around.
Avatar 12:41pm Lewis:

funny, I often get double indemnity and strangers on a train mixed up in my mind... james cain and patricia highsmith...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Charlie:

Hi Jan -- glad to brighten!
Lewis -- two of my favorite authors!
Avatar 12:43pm glenn:

i never warmed to patricia highsmith, for some reason.
Avatar 12:44pm Lewis:

I late to patricia highsmith, but agree with you wholeheartedly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm coelacanth:

the christmas before last my sister bought me an original pressing of "meet the beatles" in near mint condition...for nostalgia's sake.
she's got money, but still that was crazy! how many albums i could buy with what she spent on that.
...still, it felt wonderful to put it on and it sounds as brilliant to me now as it did when it was considered "hi-fi".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Parq:

Don't know Highsmith's work -- time for me to use the ol' library card.
Avatar 12:45pm annie:

i've always enjoyed Georges Simenon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm coelacanth:

(sorry. still thinking about "don't bother me" in my childhood...i'm done!)
Avatar 12:46pm annie:

no, please...continue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

So far this radio program has been perfect.
Avatar 12:49pm bobdoesthings:

@coelacanth - the "meet the beatles" was what I was listening off of as well as a kid... one of those US-only releases, not an actual album
Avatar 12:49pm bobdoesthings:

but I'll stop as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm coelacanth:

wow! Charlie, am i correct to think Peggy Lee (one of my favorites) never recorded "p,p,p,"?
  12:50pm Listening Out There:

Si, Piero!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Parq:

A few years back, a newly discovered James Cain novel, "The Cocktail Waitress", was released. I recommend it. Enjoyably salacious, with maybe the creepiest ending I've ever read.
Avatar 12:56pm Lewis:

Thanks Parq - will have to check that out (figuratively and literally)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm coelacanth:

i as well. i've never read James Cain.
Avatar 12:58pm glenn:

cain is in the top three, with chandler and hammett.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm coelacanth:

(who i've also never read)
Avatar 1:02pm glenn:

geeez, fish. get thee to a bookery.
Avatar 1:02pm ndbob:

afternoon Charlie and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Charlie:

If anyone wants Patricia Highsmith recommendations, let me know.
Parq -- will look for that Cain -- haven't read it.
Avatar 1:02pm ndbob:

Cain is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Charlie:

hi ndBoB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coelacanth:

i read a lot glenn! i just have an alternate top 3!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Parq:

Charlie, re Highsmith recom -- yes, please!
Avatar 1:06pm glenn:

I was reading a sign high on the wall behind the bar:
ONLY GENUINE PRE-WAR AMERICAN AND
BRITISH WHISKEYS SERVED HERE

I was trying to count how many lies could be found in those nine words, and had reached four, with promise of more, when one of my confederates, the Greek, cleared his thoat with the noise a gasoline engine's backfire.

The Continental Op by Dashiell Hammett
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Wendy del Formaggio:

"Nobody eats there anymore. It's too crowded."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Charlie:

@Wendy -- is that a Yogi Berra line?
  1:10pm jan:

Thanks for that introduction to Miklos Rozsa! and enjoyed Bob and Ray, before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Charlie, it's a variation, yes. :-)
I think the original goes, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." But, I adjusted it for Bob & Ray.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Today, the Ds have it. I love the Dymaxion, and I am loving this Dick & Dee Dee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

I'm not sure I entirely get chocolate flavored Tootsie Roll Pops.
  1:15pm Jeff g.:

Thanks for the great driving music, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm coelacanth:

it's a vaguely chocolate-flavored substance with an entirely different type of vaguely chocolate-flavored substance inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Uncle Michael:

Chocolate-flavored hard candy is just weird. And if the inside tastes like the outside, where's the reward? A change of texture? nope.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm coelacanth:

rest in peace Bob Elliott.
Avatar 1:21pm βrian:

A big bowl of Tom Yum. Mmm. good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm coelacanth:

i agree,Uncle. actually i love chocolate, and dislike most chocolate -flavored things. maybe i'm a purist?
(in regard to chocolate anyway)
Avatar 1:24pm Michael:

Thought I had that Marathon Premium and I had to go look since I'm home today. And I do! Guess I'll have to see if the turntable still works - I haven't heard those since receiving it.
Avatar 1:24pm glenn:

it satisfies both sides of the chocolate absorption dilemma. you get the quick release hit, followed by the delayed gratification hit of the inner core gooiness.
Avatar 1:25pm βrian:

I like chocolate milk ok, but milk chocolate is anathema in our home.

Keep it deep, keep it dark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm coelacanth:

so, it's time-released candy?
Avatar 1:26pm glenn:

and can i just say, as a complete atheist, how much i love pope francis? ipolitics.ca...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Charlie:

ty, Jeff G -- drive safely
Avatar 1:28pm annie:

this playlist is perfect for cat-napping
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm coelacanth:

yes. dark chocolate ONLY! ...but i do put creme in my coffee, when i drink coffee. the fattier the better.
  1:28pm jan:

so what kind of story can you tell us about Tot Taylor- Long ago I did a search to try and find that tune for myself and came up empty.
Avatar 1:30pm bobdoesthings:

baby!
Avatar 1:30pm glenn:

what's with putting butter in coffee? that seems to be a thing.
Avatar 1:30pm Ham:

yeah, baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Awesome segue from "baby" to "bye-bye." Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Charlie:

here's some info on Tot Taylor:
unbound.co.uk...
that album was something from the WFMU library -- don't know more than that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Jeff Golick:

Ironically, parked just in time for this wonderful Cars song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm coelacanth:

francis is amazing. too bad he wasn't around when either bush was in office to inform folks about how "not-christian" those supposed christians were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Charlie:

who puts butter in coffee? Tibetans put yak butter and salt in tea -- very peculiar, but can be got used to...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Is Rick Ocasek really singing, "It's just a fucking alibi"? I've always wondered that while listening to it on commercial radio. Far be it for me to call the FCC, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm coelacanth:

oh, butter in coffee...okay, not THAT fatty! just heavy cream.
Avatar 1:36pm βrian:

Haven't heard M.O.M. in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Charlie:

@coelacanth (if you're still here): dunno if peggy lee ever recorded this song, but if she did, i wish I had it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Mike East:

I used to dip a buttered roll in my coffee and the effect of the butter melting into the coffee was quite pleasant.
Avatar 1:41pm glenn:

i'll go out on a limb here and bet that quizas means perhaps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Charlie:

and vice versa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Charlie:

some Patricia Highsmith books I like a lot (off the top of my head):
The Tremor of Forgery
Found in the Street
The Black House (short stories)
The Talented Mister Ripley
Ripley Under Ground
I've read many more, but those come to mind first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm coelacanth:

Mike E i probably shouldn't try that! (i do like butter)
Avatar 1:45pm βrian:

Meghan? Well, ok then!
Avatar 1:46pm bobdoesthings:

heading out a bit early.. thanks charlie! greeeeatt show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Parq:

Ooh, nice Brooks reference.
Avatar 1:49pm glenn:

indeed Wendy!
Avatar 1:52pm annie:

:)
Avatar 1:52pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm coelacanth:

i think it was Peter Stampfel who did an excellent version of "i'm so lonesome..." on Nick Hill's show years ago...my favorite version. i recorded it from the radio but i wonder if it's otherwise available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie. I loves a Highsmith. Saw Carol last week. Quality work. Did you find yourself breathing harder when reading Ripley Underground. Ripley is so amoral.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm coelacanth:

Thanks Charlie!
later on y'all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Meghan:

yay! hey there Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Parq:

Reading over coverage of the Apple encryption controversy, I learn from Wired Magazine that "bruteforce" is a word -- is, in fact a verb, as in "should the FBI be able to bruteforce the phone." The wonder of it all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Brian in UK:

@glenn With you on the butter. So to speak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm coelacanth:

damn. i don't think it was Peter Stampfel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Charlie:
