Well done on the proper spelling of the cut/album. Hi, Jesse!

Where'd you get it, if you don't mind my asking?

The title? From discogs.com

Doug Schulkind:

Who is the artist alive and active today who's passing would garner anything remotely similar to the near universal outpouring of love and loss? I'm not even sure Bob Dylan's death would elicit the same Himalayan mound of feelings.
Avatar 7:14pm
northguineahills:

I actually really like this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Doug Schulkind:

Jeff Golick, you said something really smart and thoughtful at the end of Magic Hour when you said Bowie embraced/projected alienation in a welcoming and encouraging fashion. I liked that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Gary:

^It's true

Paul McCartney will be mourned for sure but not probably in the same way. If he had pursued the Temporary Secretary rabbit hole maybe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Gary:

Lodger! The last album I ever bought of his, and maybe my favorite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Gary:

I think Dylan will be super-mourned, but entirely by white men over 40
Avatar 7:19pm
Jesse K:

Actually I have no idea who's important to who and who will be mourned at any scale. It's pretty amazing though to see
  7:20pm
Jeff g.:

I ship for Lodger. (I think that's what the kids say.)

Aw, thanks, Doug. A stopped clock is right twice a day etc etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
listener james from westwood:

@Jesse: Bowie kept connecting with folks who felt different for whatever reason, generation after generation, whatever their weird. Sir Paul's works and Beatledom both seem frozen in time and nostalgia a bit more.
  7:24pm
Jeff g.:

The truly mind-bending part of Bowie's exit is that he left us with NEW material to parse, so that we can actually celebrate his latest creation even as we mourn his passing. When the Dylans/McCartneys/Arethas of our world kick off, I presume we'll all be looking back. Whereas w DB we're still looking forward (and back, too).

You stopped another clock, Jeff G.

Still stunning that he was able to keep the health info under wraps for so long, with today's TMZ/bribery-driven celeb news cycle.

I'm choosing to believe the GIFs tonight are a review of Bowie's collection of conveyances.

I can only hear this now as accompaniment to that Eno/Bowie/Visconti animation genius-ness.

A have my show this Thursday but I suspect people will be tired of hearing all Bowie by then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Doug Schulkind:

I really don't think so, Rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
dave:

Hold on, which acoustic version was that? To be honest, I was planning to play either that or the other Bowie-Brel cover on an upcoming show over here. Although I'm not sure if I can get myself to play the other one, if you know which I mean. Too rough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
Rich in Washington:

It's weird, I went to sleep listening to Therese's show Sunday evening and she played some Blackstar and I thought, damn! That's really good. The last few Bowie albums didn't really do much for me, but I thought, I need to go out and buy this one. It's really amazing.
Then I went to bed and woke to the news.
The news broke right in the middle of her show, apparently.
  7:58pm
Jeff g.:

This is amazing.

@UM: context is all. I look forward to your presentation of all and sundry!

The hits just keep on comin'. Blowfly has entered hospice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Doug Schulkind:

Yet another thing Blowfly and my mother have in common.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Uncle Michael:

My mom wouldn't go. Her partner was a hospice worker and she still wouldn't. She didn't have letting go in her. She left very hard. Pretty much kicking and screaming. She never made peace with what was happening. I fear I will be the same one day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

My mom is receiving hospice care at home. The hospice nurse came at 4am last night with more morphine.

The Beatles & particularly Sir Macca defined romantic love for me & gazillions. When he goes - I'm gonna think of 'And I Love Her' & freak.

Avatar 8:49pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I watched my Dad take his last breaths - & when you've reached that point of Jonathan Livingston Seagull departure - I do not understand why anyone doesn't just get loaded w/ opiates & let go w/out any more struggle. It seemed needless to me.
Avatar 8:51pm
Jesse K:

@Ham, that one's from the original "V: the miniseries"
Avatar 8:55pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think w/ Bowie - symbolically he was a shapeshifter - which implies resurrection & immortality - & that's why it's disturbing. I'm surprised how powerful my feelings are, myself. You take for granted that's always there. It emerges he was a funny kind person who cared. We've already lost Beatles - so the shock threshold of that / those Symbols not being Immortal has been crossed...Lennon getting shot down violently & nonsensically altered my perspective on the world & reality on deep levels, I'm pretty sure...

Avatar 8:58pm

Also, he was only 69, not old by any stretch
Avatar 9:02pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Let's face it - @ our age - it's the pain of watching an era / eras recede.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm
melinda:

@RevRabbit: I think you're right about why it's disturbing. He seemed like he should have gone on forever. Icon of my teen music years, more than any other. Seeing parts of our youth die.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm
coelacanth:

wow! are all these spaceships real?

...69 is old for some people, but not for Bowie.
Avatar 9:11pm
Jesse K:

You're right of course, age is very relative and 69 is quite old for some
Avatar 9:13pm
hambone:

ah, i see. never a good sign, those skulls in the hillside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Ike:

Cool sounds tonight (though this track is over-driven or needling the post or something).
Avatar 9:16pm
Jesse K:

Howdy Ike!That's actually pressed into the record like that. Other two songs get a little hot but nothing like that
Avatar 9:24pm
Jesse K:

Those ahang rooz records are pretty much conditionally dodgy, if you can find them at all it's cause they were mostly smuggled out of Iran so if they're playable I consider myself lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
coelacanth:

right, and Bowie was vibrant 'till very recently. for most of his adult life he looked younger than he is.
Lemmy,as example, had an exceptionally youthful, passionate attitude right to the end...but i would not call it "vibrant".
they both died young- considering where they were each at just 2-3 years ago; but Lemmy's death shouldn't have surprised people, even if they hadn't seen him in 3 years.
2 years ago Bowie looked Great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Ike:

Wow! Smuggled out of Iran! That definitely gets a pass for over-drivenness then.
